The Mighty LAVA SPIDER (SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge!)
THE RIGHT RULESET
LAVA SPIDER is one of those units that does very well in specific rulesets. The little League rule set in which the maximum mana per card is 4 is one of these rulesets.
My LAVA SPIDER is a level 4 gold foil card, which means that it is a bit faster and also shoots two arrows instead of one.
The blast abbility also damages nearby units of the enemy target. Always nice to cause chaos in this way. Especially in low mana fights, as is the case in the little league rules.
But also in ruleset in which arrows always hit or melee units cannot be used, the LAVA SPIDER is a great unit to set up. The only downside is that my FIRE splinter doesn't really have a summoner that can leverage the LAVA SPIDER to its full potential. Although that is not always a problem. I was a bit shocked by the level 6 ALRIC STORMBRINGER that the opponent had lined up. Fortunately, the rest of the cards turned out to be less powerful and I mostly lacked punch in the enemy's team. So it looked good to me. But first let's take a look at the line up of my team.
The Line-up
SUMMONER TARSA (LVL3) - Gives each unit at least one extra life and melee units one extra melee power. I like to play with Tarsa because she often manages to overwhelm the opponent with strength.
1st XENITH MONK (LVL2) - One of the best tanks in the Little League ruleset, because of it's self healing ability.
2nd MAGMA TROLL (LVL1) - Tarsa makes this troll a great support unit, by giving him extra life and melee power. The reach ability assists the XENITH MONK in destroying the enemy tank.
3rd CREEPING OOZE (LVL1) - AThe Fire Splinter's weakness is often its speed. The CREEPING OOZE slows down the opponent and tries to equalize in this area. Also great cannon fodder for enemy snipe or opportunity units.
4th LAVA SPIDER (LVL4) - The hero of this blog. The blast ability makes this spider a true serial killer.
5th SPIRIT HOARDER (LVL1) - Great unit in the little league ruleset. Heals the backline unit with the most damage and also shoots some delicious magic balls at the enemy.
6th SCAVO FIREBOALT (LVL3) - Not a widely used unit. Fine in this ruleset as the last unit, because he has relatively many lives and speed. Also aims two arrows at the enemy tank.
In the end an easy win and that's great given the fact that it's often hard fighting in the gold league. As expected, the opponent lacked firepower. My team quickly defused the enemy XENITH MONK. After that, little was left of the enemy team and the job was quickly done.
Next time...
This was actually a great fight, I don't think I would do it any differently next time. I only lost the CREEPING OOZE, but I had already factored that in. Although it always matters what the opponent does and I think he could have gotten more out of it. Little League rules for me is mainly (self) healing, focus on the enemy tank, sufficient speed and units that have enough life to survive a few hits. Of all that I had enough to make this a success. But if anyone sees areas for improvement, I'd be happy to read it.
LORE: The DRAKE OF ARNAK is a medium-sized Dragon hybrid. He is highly intelligent and extremely rich, but cannot fly nor breathe fire. All his life he has honed his skills as a summoner, hoping to win a share of the glory that should rightfully be his as a carrier of the fire blood. The Drake's trademark is that his monsters are summoned to battle with a thin force field of blue fire, fortifying their defenses. Forms have been filed by the High Council to formally request that the DRAKE OF ARNAK hand over his secrets for the good of the united Gloridax, but he will not give up his proprietary magic without a fight. The Drake of Arnak is the Gloridax rival of Daria Dragonscale; the two despise one another.
