Splinterlands Could Use A Junior League

Ever since we did away with leagues earlier this year during the ranked play rework, there has been an outcry to bring them back in. A poll was run awhile back which showed that most of the stake weighted voters were against the idea, but I want to present an alternative option.

A Junior league.

This hasn't been fully fleshed out by any means so feel free to poke holes and make it better, but here are the main points:

  • New format with rotating sets (always including the current in print set)
  • Silver league max cards only
  • Limited SPS reward pool (no more than 50-100k per month (for context the current reward pool for ranked is 5M per month)

The idea is to bring back a more casual and low cost area for players to play. The team can run a few liquidity bots in here and it can serve as a sandbox for new players to really figure things out. The reward pool would be small and we can even cap the amount per win to make sure no exploits happen.

I believe this would satisfy some of the lower cost players and since the game doesn't really open up until Gold, the meta at lower leagues works to help new players figure things out.

What do you think?

For some reason I am intuitively against this idea. Chaos cards are so cheap right now and we still don't get almost any new players. Maxed out Chaos Set dipped below $600 at times this year and still we didn't get any new players. Creating a new player area would be just a waste of effort and potentially a new area to exploit.
