After I missed the last battle challenge featuring Centaur, this time I am going to participate again.

Giant Roc

image.png

I wasn't a big fan of the Giant Roc, when it was part of the Starter Deck. And I really didn't miss the card so far. But for the challenge I did rent it. Probably it is getting better, starting at Gold Level, since it gets trample. But as most cards with the "Reach" Ability it misses something.
1 Melee Attack, 2 Speed,4 HP,flying and reach at level 1, isn't the best you can get for five mana. Another attack comes at level 4 and 8, and trample at level 6. This common Alpha/Beta card is a very niche card.

Lore

From far away, a Roc may be mistaken for a normal bird, but once it comes closer its true size can be appreciated. These massive birds never stray from the Burning Lands, most likely due to the warm ground and favorable nesting conditions of the uninhabitable wasteland of The Unknown.

The Rule Set:

Aim True and Healed Out with 22 Mana, no Life and Dragon splinter. So it was a True Stike for all melee and ranged monsters.

My Team

Summoner: Pyre

image.png

Speed can be essentiell and since I wanted to put in some ranged attackers as well, I preferred Pyre over Tarsa.
Pyre is at $8,54 for a 1 BCX copy, and the cheapest is a level 8 for $699, so it is ~$6/BCX.
A lot cheaper, than it was, but still not the cheapest option.

First Position: Living Lava

image.png

One of my major tanks for five, if it is available and not eating up most of my mana. Living Lava is a great tank, especially against melee and ranged, since it has the Shield ability.
Being an Untamed rare card, it is still part of the Starter Set. 3 Melee Attack, 1 Speed, 2 Shields and 6 HP with Shield is quite good for a level 1, 7 mana card. It gets another melee attack at level 7 and gets the Rust ability at level 5 and Thorns at level 8. Other than that it just gets bulkier.
Cheapest buy is a $540 maxed out level 8 copy, so $4,7 per BCX. A single BCX copy is at $6,49.

Second Position: Giant Roc - The Challenge Card

image.png

As already said I am no big fan of this card. And it looks like I am not the only one. It is quite cheap for a Beta card. A single BCX copy is at $1,59. The cheaper level 10 at $1,36 per BCX. Since it won't be playable in modern format, it is not too useful for me.
But I think that with trample it could be really a good member of the team.

Third Position: Serpentine Spy

image.png

2 Melee Attack, 3 speed, 1 HP and Opportunity is making this common Untamed card some of the best low mana fire cards in the game. Especially the Opportunity is really important.
It gets another melee attack at level 5 and 8, and the poison ability at level 10. With a max speed of 6 (starting from level 7), it is getting really fast!
And yes, this card got some love: $4,4 per single BCX for a common card is quite a lot! The "cheaper" level 3 version is still above $4 per BCX.

Fourth Position: Spark Pixies

image.png

Another Rare Untamed Card and my only ranged card. 4 mana, 2 ranged attack, 5 speed, 1 HP and flying at level 1 is really a fast one. It gets to 7 Speed at level 7 and gets the Stun ability at level 5 and Dodge at level 8. It gets another ranged attack at level 6. A 1 BCX copy is at $4,34, a cheaper level 2 copy at $ 3,81 per BCX.

Opponent Team:

image.png

My opponent went with a magic spam team. Obsidian as a summonr, Chaos Agent on first position, Mycelic Morphoid on second, Regal Peryton on third, Mycelic Slipspawn on fourth and Khmer Princess on fifth position.

The Battle:

image.png

I wasn't really equipped against magic spam and therefore my main tank was gone after the first round, while I could only kill his two meat shields.

In the second round he could almost finish me, while I couldn't really kill any of his monsters.

Analysis:

A short and painful defeat. If everything is open it is not a good idea to have no anti-magic cards against a bot.

Cheers,
@andy-plays

How do you know that it is a bot?
