Community Engagement Challenge: Rebellion Reward Card Review - Halfling Refugee

image.png

Welcome Guys!

This is my first post for a Community Engagement Challenge. I did not make any post for a challenge for like 2 years, I decided to just make some post about Splinterlands, but not about challenges, another thing is that in my main account with ign: atnazo I not have any new reward card. I only play brawls and sometimes tourneys from time to time. I not have glint to buy rarity draws , because I not play rankeds games on this account. Simply because with silver level cards, I will have really not big chance for a win versus diamond decks and renting diamond cards will be additional cost, when I can still have fun and play with my gold foil silver deck in brawls and tourneys. Anyway I decided to to share not my battle, but my guildmate from Summoner's Tribe, which not only decided to use new reward card, but he also played with new promo card! Are you ready?

Halfling Refugee presentation

image.png

In this Community Engagement Challenge Super Star is Halfing Refugee. Pretty new and powerful card from new reward Rebellion set. Why this card is so powerful? Cost only 1 mana, have so many hp, 3 attack damage, 3 speed and can heal for 1/3 of total hp. Ok, but you will say that maybe this is not the best choice for a tank for many scenario, Chaos Agent usually looks better in diamond, but this matchup was in silver. The only thing, which is not great about this card is his first ability - weary. In short every round you have 10% more chance to skip a turn. So you can't attack with this card or heal from wounds. Limit is 80% for skip turn, but mostly matches for low mana finishes in less than 3 rounds so not that big disadvantage I think.

My friend still not had enough luck to pull Gold Foil version of this card, but I think he will get this card soon :)

SplinterLore

Since the Chaos Empire conquered Praeotria, the land has seen a refugee crisis the likes of which it has never before known. With major cities and smaller villages alike torn apart by war, famine, and disease, very few sanctuaries remain.

In the Great Lowlands, many of these refugees travel to Fireboro, where the republic’s former chancellor and those loyal to him have established safe havens for those who lost their homes to the empire. Among them are the Republic of Fireboro’s Praetorian halflings, whose shires were mostly destroyed by the legions of Chaos. They remain defiant, yet it’s hard to keep fighting the good fight when you’ve lost everything you hold dear.

As we can read in Splinter Lore our hero lost his home and looking for a revenge, it's not easy to deal with enemies, when you lost everything you had, but there is one thing you should remember - the most dangerous are those, who have nothing to lose.

Battle Strategy with Halfling Refugee

With power of new promo card - Mana Warden, which deserve to talk about Halfling Refugee is a beast for only 1 mana. He with his anger is ready to fight from first position for those, who can't. Like a true hero.

Mana Warden with his powerful ability Shield ward is able to share shield skill with front like card. In this case our Halfling Refugee get enough attack resist to sustain for first rounds.

image.png

Second ability of dwarf is reducing speed card, which he hits. Not in many scenario he is even able to hit once, because he can't attack from second position, but he is really great addition to your team. This is the only card in Splinterlands, which can share with other cards on the table shield ability!

Building a strong teamcomp

I show you now how looks final battleground with all units of my guildmate and his opponent in this battle.

image.png

This battle is from official tourney sponsored by SPS.DAO in silver league. Played by my guildmate from Summoner's Tribe jerwin2022.

Thanks for a good battle and now I gonna analyse this battle step by step!

One thing to addmit, there is only 1 ruleset true strike, which means that all units always hit their target. So as you see Venka smash :D

Tactic is really important thing

Let's compare both Summoners used in this battle.

My friend decided to go with Lorkus, which is really powerful Summoner with his own tactic. Usually most people go with affliction and life leech for better sustain in long battles.

image.png

Lorkus is dual summoner, but in this matchup only 1 color is available and this is fire. Fire is really strong color to play for fast wins. So many powerful sneak units or fast ranged cards. In this game, my friend decided to go with one sneak card, which when hit remove armor and we all know that this card gonna hit, because have ambush skill so attack before 1 round.

Ok, but what summoner is choice of his enemy?

image.png

This is bulldog's summoner, which is powerfull too, but when you not play with ranged units you just lost some distance damage potential.

So in my opinion playing with Squirrel summoner and using only one ranged unit is not the best choice. Another thing is fly ability, which not doing anything in true strike ruleset so another waste of ability.

Ok, I can think about 1 good thing in this summoner, because using true strike on units with already true strike is really another waste of abilities xD So probably he should play with taunt, but this game was played in tourney, so I am not pretty sure, if he was able to predict on which spot gonna be Venka to delete this card, befeore make really huge damage with never miss true strike. As I expected he doesn't know about Venka and decided to go with first set of skills - true strike and reducing speed, which is not great, when units will hit anyway.

image.png

As you can see in green circle highlighted abilities used in this tactic.

Is hard to say now, if with that little change in tactic can be enough to win this battle, because we can't check that, but for sure that would be better for his opponent.

Round 1

image.png

In round 1 there was a trade between two ambush units with sneak ability after that card with opportunity almost kills dwarf. After Ambush Venka with Refugee kills front line tank and goblin kills last distance card.

Round 2

image.png

Second round starts from dwarf kill, but Halfling Refugee not lose shield mana buff and still can get heavy hits from attack damage. it's true strike so Venka dominate more with huge attack damage not with trample, because battle is in silver league cap. Anyway kills enemy Halfling Refugee for one shot :D and gets more hp with life leech.

image.png

Halfling Refugee from Lorkus team kill Gobalano for one hit, he have enough damage with additional ad buff from inspire. And the last card in enemy team survive to third round with only 2 hp left.

Round 3

image.png

Gobalano just finished last card of Drath team and secure a flawless victory!

image.png

My guildmate is a winner and we can summary this post.

Splinterlands a game where better strategy wins!

Tournaments battle can be really tricky, when you sent a team for a battle you never know, if your opponent already played this game or not. Is hard to know everything, that's why pro players wait till the end to see opponent's tactics. This time my friend probably sent battle after his opponent it gives him so advantage from the start and he was able to finish this game with victory.

That was one good strategy placing Mana Warden next to Halfing Refugee, giving it Shield which allows it to be more tanky and can sustain the damage it gets with Heal.
