Splinterlands — Very good Weapons Trainers

1.png

Hello everyone, welcome 👋, this is my post for the Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!

In this challenge, I will show you one of my battles from the recent Ghost Card Fun Time tournament , which allowed all players to play with all the cards of each edition at the max level in the Wild Format. There were no prizes for this tournament, well 1 DEC for the winner :P, but it doesn't matter. What I really like is that Splinterlands brings these open tournaments, as at least for me it is very exciting to have many options to play, and this type of tournament can attract new players to the game with the right incentive.

I wanted to try a lot of different strategies to see what works and what doesn't, so in this battle, after looking at the mana limit and rulesets, I decided to use two monsters with the
30x30 WP.png Weapons Training ability (magic and ranged), to power up my monsters that have no attack. I've seen a lot of battles with this combo, so I want to use it too. Personally, I think the Weapons Training ability is one of the best, if not the best, in the game, as you can use many different and interesting strategies with this ability.

A little information about the Weapons Training ability:

  • The monster with this ability grants adjacent units without attack, its attack (melee, ranged or magic), up to a maximum of 3.

  • A monster without an attack, can only receive two different types of attacks, since for now a unit can only be between two units. Who knows later, maybe a monster can be surrounded by 3 allies, or most likely there will be a weapons trainer with 2 attack types.

  • If the Weapons Trainer dies, the monsters powered by it, will still have the attack.

Now let's see if "my strategy" works.

None of the monsters on the battlefield will have armor and will not gain armor by any method. Additionally, no monster will be able to heal or be healed. And lastly, all monsters will gain the Knock Out ability, which allows them to deal double damage to monsters that are stunned.

I though the opponent might try to use sneak melee monsters, since no monster will have armor. And that's why I decided to use Mylor Crowling, who grants the Thorns ability to his allies, allowing them to deal 2 melee damage when hit by a melee attack . And I also though that the opponent would try to use Mylor too, so I didn't play any melee monsters.

Since all my monsters will get Thorns, I chose Almo Cambio for its Return Fire and Magic Reflect abilities, when attacked by ranged or magic attacks, it will deal half the damage (rounded up) back to its attacker. So no matter what kind of monsters attack Almo, they won't come out unscathed, unless they have the reflection shield. Additionally, Almo is immune to negative effects such as poison, and can dodge magic attacks as if they were melee or ranged attacks.

Failed Summoner will be the first monster in my lineup to receive the Weapons Training ability, thanks to its next ally. I put him in the second position, due to its high hit points, and Magic Reflect ability. He will also increase the health of his friendly allies by 1. And reduce the attack of enemy melee units by 1.

Moxian Rebel, the only neutral card for now that has the Weapons Training ability, which grants 2 magic attack to its adjacent allies. And Moxian cannot be directly targeted by attacks unless she is in the first position.

Lurking Puffer, another earth monster that also costs 2 mana without attack and 9 health. This card was created specifically to be used with the Weapons Training ability, as it has the Poison ability (50% chance to apply poison to the enemy target, losing -2 health at the start of each round). Additionally, it reduces the magic attack of enemy monsters by 1. And if attacked by a melee attack, it deals 2 armor damage and the attacker's maximum armor is reduced by 2.

And my second monster that has Weapons Training will be Ava the Undaunted, who will give +3 ranged attack to her adjacent allies without attack. Despite having a ranged attack, she can attack even in the first position. Additionally, she has the Shatter and Oppress abilities, meaning her attacks will destroy the enemy armor. And deals double damage if the enemy has no attacks or is trained.

And my last non-attack monster will be Epona, who will get +3 ranged attack thanks to Ava. She has 4 abilities, starting with increasing her allies' health by 1. Additionally, she has Divine Shield (the first time she takes damage, it is ignored) and Immunity to negative effects. And finally, repair 2 armor of an ally whose armor has taken the most damage each turn.

Round 1:
Epona is defeated by Enemy☠️Fiendish Harpy.

Round 2:
-Enemy☠️Coeurl Lurker is destroyed by the poison previously applied by Lurking☠️Puffer.
-☠️Ava the Undaunted is defeated by Enemy☠️Vruz, who is also destroyed by the Thorns ability.
-☠️Undead Badger and ☠️Fiendish Harpy are destroyed when they attack Lurking Puffer due to the Thorns.
-Enemy☠️Runi, who has Rebirth, is destroyed first by Lurking Puffer and then by Failed summoner.

Round 3:
Moxian Rebel ends the battle by destroying Shin-Lo.

The Weapons Trainers, Moxian and Ava, worked very well in this battle, although I got a little worried when I realized that my attacking monsters had low speed. Fortunately, they were able to attack, without problems.

I correctly predicted the use of sneak melee monsters on the opponent's side, so thanks to Mylor they took 2 melee damage when attacking my monsters due to the Thorns, and were defeated quite quickly since they had low hit points. That way I won the battle in the third round.
