Glint Strategy Reviewed

Blue on her Couch.jpg
Well? You spent all my Glint- What did I get?

The Strategy

As outlined in my last post was to buy Major Chests as they were the best value for Blue's Glint. My calculations were that she would get a return on her Glint of ~167% using this method. (84% in Cards, 13% in Merits and 70% in Energy) Once she had accumulated 'enough' Commons, Rares, and Epics- we would probably switch to buys Legendary Draws to round out her collection but the first step was: But Major Chests.

Projected vs. Actually Results

First the 'overall' view of the chests and their contents. Blue spent 150K Glint on 150 Major Chests and this is how the results stacked up:
image.png

As you can see, despite the small sample size, pretty good! A little low on the Pots and Energy, a little low on the Energy pulls but all within a few % of the Expected values. Of course, the important results are the final results: How Many of each rarity of card did Blue get?

Again, as you can see, the number of chests containing each rarity was very close to projected numbers. (Epic was low but getting 2 Legendaries was fantastic!) The quantities received were also very close- a little over on Commons and Legendaries, a little low on Rares and Epics. Overall, as calculated by 'Glint Cost' (cost to buy Rarity Draws) we see that buying those cards in the Glint shop through Rarity Draws would have cost her ~120K, meaning her ROI for cards was 80%- not far off the projected 84% ROI.

For Merits and Energy returns, she did similarly well:

43 Merit Chests and 13 Energy Chests netting her 31,219 Merits/36 Energy. The Energy would cost Blue 2,800 Glint/point. (for the first 24, more after that but I ignored that for figuring the cost) We see that Blue got an ROI of ~20% for Merit drops. (I used 1:1 even though only the first 2K Merits cast 1 Glint/Merit- it rises steeply after that) Meaning that between Card Drops (119.8K Glint) and her 31.2K Merits- she netted more value that she spent already.
This means that the 36 Energy and 232 Pots Blue received were, basically, free. She was free to use the Energy on more Battles (getting more Glint + SPS) and free to burn the Pots upgrading her pulls for future cards. Overall, Blue did a little better than her projected 167% ROI on buying Major Chests.

TLDR

Bought 150 Major Chests. Got 173 Cards (142/28/1/2), 232 Pots, 31.2K Merits, and 36 Energy. The cards and the Merits would have cost >150K to buy through the Glint Store while the Energy and Pots could have cost almost as much. The Actual ROI far exceeded the est. ROI of 167% from buying Major Chests and shows that Major Chests are far and away the best value for your Glint (Results may vary, 150 Chests is a small sample size, guidelines and distributions are subject to change)

Some Notes

A few things things I thought would be important to mention

Merits

Merits (Glad Cards) are ridiculously important- especially in Modern and especially when you are first starting out. 2K Merits gets you a Gladius Case (pack) and buy joining a Guild, participating in Brawls, and getting Merits from Chests- even new players could be able to buy 3-5 packs of Gladiator cards/season. That may not seem like much but there are a few very OP Common Gladiator cards. As an example- this is a D1/Wild Battle Blue played recently where a Common Gladiator (Isgald Vorst) EATS an entire MAX Kelya team.

Ultimate Chests

Blue and I did spend another 135K on buying 30 Ultimate Chests- with the sample size being so small, the results were seriously underwhelming (13.5K Merits/27 Energy/68 Cards- 60/7/1/0 ~110K Glint in value) so I didn't include that in this post.

First 30 Major Chests- "Just the Cards ma'am, just the Cards"

(I use #PeakMonsters to view the results of my Rewards and Draw buys https://peakmonsters.com/@[account]/explorer- select "Rewards & Draw" to see that summary. Thanks @asgarth)
Got both Legendaries in my first 30 chests... Kinda went down from there.

Blue also pulled 4 'GF' Chests- getting 7 Common and 1 Rare as GF but since there is no 'GF Draw' Chest in the Glint Shop; I didn't include that in the calculated value of her cards.

Being more than a little mathmatically challenged. If, like me, you're only really after the cards at this point, would you say just buying the epic, rare and commons batch 1 draws would make more sense?

I have enough potions. My account is botted so the merits are probably of limited value. Extra energy might help but, again, probably less than if I was playing manually.

Short Answer: No. Not even close, TBH. Major Chests give some much value in cards that the Merits and Energy are essentially bonuses for buying the chests.

Longer Answer: The return in cards (Reward and Gladiator) is more than the cost of the Major Chests- when compared to the cost, in Glint, of buying those cards. The Energy produced is just a bonus, giving you a bonus day or two of Battles each season, with a corresponding boost to both Glint and SPS Rewards. As you say- for anyone other than new players, the potions gained from chests are of negligible value.

OK. Thanks for that. Let me look at this again in the morning when I'm not so tired. I haven't spent this season's glint yet so can still go either way. Looks like I'll be buying 150 major chests. Want me to send you the results?
