Is it possible for Splinterlands (SL) Investors to invest in hive? Why?

avatar

Is it possible?

Sure it is possible. Anything is possible. Hive is a blogging platform that SL people are quite familiar with. At least they know the existance of hive. All the SL related communication by the team and the SPS.DAO happens on hive blogging front-ends. The game itself is powered by hive. Yabapmatt, the CEO of SL is a top 20 Hive block producer (witness). Each SL players account is a hive account. So in terms of visibility, awareness, and access there is no issue. Typically for new users at hive, these are all big barriers, which does not exist for any of the SL players.

However, the big question is why will they invest more?

Why?

This is not a very simple question so I will try to arrive at it from multiple angles. First the data bit, I hope @dalz can help me with a SQL querry. I like to find :

out of SPS stakeholders who holds 200K SPS or more, how many have 10K hive or more

What I expect to see is not too many

Reasons:

  1. Hive is not a popular blockchain if you ask any gamer, they rather hold a popular blockchain like ETH or Matic or BNB
  2. Gamers typically do not understand the benefit or inner working of hive
  3. The hive front end, especially the markdown interface, is not too user friendly
  4. The 4 key system doesn't help either

Mitigation:

  1. For an user, popularity can be an afterthought; all they care about is ROI/Price. If we can demonstrate ROI/Price they won't mind
  2. Inner working may or may not be important at least in the beginning. There are some good tutotials, we can make them accessible or readily available
  3. We can have a good markdown tutorial, there are plenty of them available
  4. Again a simple tutorial can solve this

Plan of Action

  1. Curation rewards: A lot of investors do not know how hive curation works. How people can follow a curation trail. Even a couple of days back I have shown this to someone. Consider using hive.vote.
  2. HBD as a stable coin: HBD is an algorithymic stable coin that is based on hive curation principle. Being a niche coin it is quite immune to DDOS attack. It is highly unlikely we can get into a Luna situation.

For the record, I have held 1M HP for a while without any major problem. I find writing my thoughts here quite liberating, and I plan on doing that for the next foreseeable future.

Two things:

  1. I’ve often considered going in the opposite direction; being currently only a Hive/3S user, I’ve been curious about playing SL but when 8’ve tried in the past I’ve been stopped by login issues or other BS that’s cause me to walk away…I still to this day have no real concept of what the game actually is.

  2. 1M HP - that’s awesome dude! I have about 2k right now. My first big huge personal goal is to reach 10k, but I would love to hit 1M someday.

Anyway, well done, and I like the profile avatar :)
…let me know if you’ve got any advice for getting tarted with SL!

EDIT:
Just tried again, using Ecency credentials

Seems cool, I may try and get the hang of it over my next couple lunch breaks :)

take it for a spin. Got to buy a spellbook to get earning, It costs $10.

Let me know if I can help you regarding the game in any way.

Hell yeah man, it looks cool. We used to have our own game, it was called Scrolls…it was a lot like magic, but we made the cards ourselves…this seems like something I would enjoy.

Can I ask, is this a game where I can be competitive/have fun if all I invest is the initial $10 for the book? Or will I find myself compelled to spend more and more to gain an edge? I have that addictive/compulsive gambler streak, so I get nervous about that as well.

Thanks!

lol you will have fun for $10, but soon you will want to put in a bit more to stay competitive. If you are familiar with magic that’s how life goes for a trading card game

Hahaha yeah this is true. In Scrolls, the only cost was that of ink and cardstock. New cards had to be approved by the guild of course.

I’m 100% going to give it a shot, but probably won’t invest in getting started until I’ve hit my first HP target (10k)…which I don’t think will take me very long :)

To be honest, I'm not sure why anyone would invest in Hive. I know that the daily creation of Hive is a lot less than the amounts traded every day, but there is always going to be an ever-increasing supply of Hive. I like the blockchain and I participate every day, but I'm not sure why anyone would look at it from an investment point of view.

Being niche doesn't make something immune from a DDOS attack. It makes it less likely, sure, but you need specific security controls in place to provide immunity from a DDOS attack.

I will tell you why, simply because you are a veteran :)

I never lost money in hive. Compared to my original investment, I am about 2X up.

At SL like everyone else I am probably down or near flat.

I feel the same way. I don't hold 1m HIVE, but I do feel like writing on here is a bit therapeutic. Even though I know many people may not read them, I think I ultimately do it more for myself than anything else. I really hope HIVE is around for a long time and maybe one day my nieces and nephews find my blog and perhaps get a bit more insight into who I was and what I was passionate about.

yes mostly I write for myself. It is almost like a personal journal for me. I have looked back into it many times, and I am doing it for about 6 years, so it is part of my life now.

Wow that 1M HP is a dream, I know it's impossible to reach that but one thing is for sure, I'll continue to accumulate HP for the long term goals here on hive. One day I'll have a decent HP to support creators and the community.

I would like to see that report too, my account would be on there with over 500k staked SPS and over 80k hive power.

If anything I would encourage all splinterlands players to add hive power to their account, the curation alone is worth it, not to mention all the other cool things about hive.

I also believe that splinterlands has turned the corner and will be strong heading into the predicted bull market and this will be good for hive. The new soulbound reward cards are fantastic, I can't wait to collect them all.

I think that would be a good idea. The HBD savings interest alone should entice a lot of investors. I do see one factor why they would hesitate to do so. They might not be too keen to put a lot of their eggs in the Hive ecosystem basket. I think it would be important for them see how the success of one isn't tied to the other, and that the potential of Hive as a text based database is really high.

Me!.., gamers are usually not writers..., there's no monsters to kill 😀

I have never had any issue with writing, but it seems beyond some. Do I take it for granted?

Yeah I know. If I have to guess the number should be less than 5%.

I would like to know this report too.
I have 102K SPS and 64K HP and I have always loved playing on Splinterlands and at the same time I have also always loved posting and interacting on Hive but I think players with 200K SPS and at least 10K HP are very few

There might be a problem linking SPL accounts with Hive main accounts. For example, my SPL account is different than my posting account on Hive (this one). And my main HIVE stake is on another account different than my posting account. So, if someone uses the same account for everything, yes, it's easy to produce a report, otherwise, it's not, and the report isn't complete, at least.

The Robocop is lobbying again :)))
Just following his own interest, and everything else that is working, and bringing people to hive, but he doesn't like is rubbish for this masterpiece of user.

you are right sir ji, ye bhhut he jarure hai. I think that gaming in the only way to attrack more user to blockchain and splinterlands wa sable to do that a lot for the chai> that will be great if the player will also start investing in the hive along with the game. you are right that not all of the players are able to do that. I hope more players will know about the thing and that is going to be huge things indeed.

"Curation reward." Who are they "curating" content for? There's no audience. Very few viewers, because for several years, potential consumers are encouraged to automate everything and walk away. Sure, this approach can bring in token buyers, but technically we're paying for products that are not being purchased. The products go unnoticed and eventually the money leaves the door.

So even all that Splinterlands content is rewarded, but due to lack of interest in content, you're left with the appearance of the product being unpopular. Media is a powerful tool and an authentic reaction contributes to growth.

Majority of people are not content creators. Majority of people are content consumers. People paying for products they are in support of is not unusual. People (Hive) paying for products nobody wants, is counterproductive.

Picture a stadium. This approach is akin to asking baseball fans to purchase tickets, but not show up to the game. Next, all goods and services available at the stadium collect dust on the shelves, while employees still need to get paid. Next, all those viewers at home see an empty stadium and therefore a struggling team. Next, the one coming to buy that team sees merchandise sales on the floor and no fans. Gives a low ball offer because it's not worth anything close to full potential.

Happy to see you're working to bring people together. I encourage Hive to reevaluate its approach to supporting content.

full agreement there :)

Yet you are here, and you wrote that comment, and I am writing a response.

I will upvote your comment to get some curation, and you will be rewarded with author rewards. I know I am stating the obvious. My point is you and I exist, and as opposed thinking who doesn't exist, I am going to celebrate that we do!

lol. Indeed. I'll tell you something funny. At times I feel like a door-to-door salesman when I leave comments like that. Luckily the door isn't being slammed in my face, and I still see the window of opportunity.

I saw your comment on top trending post, which led me here. And now others can see. Maybe one or ten. They all count.

Have a good one.

I found your latest podcast with People's guild very enlightening, particularly the bit about posting comments vs simply upvoting people's posts!

I have been posting about Splinterlands on HIVE for a little bit (over a year consistently), I even use curation trail and yes I hold over 200k SPS tokens and yet as you have mentioned I don't have 10k HIVE! I will make it my goal to reach 10k HIVE and interact more with people on HIVE.
