Battle mage secret: Noxious Fumes

avatar

Introduction

This week battle mage secret is Noxious Fumes. Nice rule set where you see many ways to counter it.
There are different splinters that have good options to reduce the damage or block the poison.

Ruleset

All units will be poisoned at the start of the battle. This does damage at the start over every round starting from round 2.

Official ruleset information from splinterlands: List-of-In-Game-Rulesets

Abilities synergies / selects

Immunity - Some are very obvious this will ignore the poison. The units that I own with this ability:

Cleanse - This will clear the poison form the first unit in that battle line my units with cleanse:

Rebirth/Resurrect - Both of these ability will trigger to remove the poison effect after the first unit died with resurrect and itself with rebirth

Martyr - Let the poison kill this unit intentionally to boost some other units. Units like:

My most played units with this rule set:

Avoid

Try to avoid or be careful with low health units.
Poison - plain simple all units are already are poisoned.

Example battle

Strategy

Medium mana battle with of course the noxious fumes rule set and ranged can attack from the first position. Only common and rare unit are selectable.

Rulesets

Noxious Fumes:
All units will be poisoned at the start of the battle. This does damage at the start over every round starting from round 2.

Close Range:
All ranged units can now also attack from the first position.

Rise of the Commons:
Only common and rare unit may be selected. Note that its still possible to select legendary summoners.

The Lineup

Summoner

CardReason
Once again lux appears on the battle stage. The extra health and speed are the most important in this match.

Units Lineup

#1#2#3#4#5#6

Diemonshark (lvl 8)
Important unit that needs to be cleansed to be able to attack
With 4 attack this will be my main unit that needs to kill everybody.

Flying Squid (lvl 10)
High health unit that can attack from the second position.

Anasth Soothsayer (lvl 4)
A rebellion appears on the stage. I have not used it that often yet but this time it my preferred unit to cleanse the Diemonshark.

Merdaali Guardian (lvl 8)
Low health but a bit protected from opportunity because of the lookout of Anasth Soothsayer

Angelic Mandarin (lvl 8)
Another healer to keep the backline healthy. with noxious fumes you cannot have enough healers. This one also has some decent health

Venari Wavesmith (lvl 8)
Give all units some extra armor and dispel possible positive effect on the first unit. Unfortunately it cannot remove the immunity.

Rounds

Start :

image.png
Lets see.... Oh an untamed deck with a strong alpha unit that will be cleansed. Most unit will die of the poison.
Strange or nice to see that my opponent also did not chose any immunity units. Most of the battles with Noxious Fumes you see unit with the immunity ability and or units with the cleanse ability.
In general most of my units have higher health so i think i should be fine. It will be hard to kill Shieldbearer

Round 1:

image.png
Both first units have been cleansed so they do not take any poison damage next round.
As i see it now the biggest mistake of my opponent it just did not bring enough unit that are doing damage. I will be killed by poison but my units can at least do some damage while alive.
My opponent has 3 units that are not doing damage. The Shieldbearer cannot attack in the last position so that will also be killed by the poison while it doing nothing.

Round 2:

image.png
Some damage will be healed again in the next round but for now it looking oke.
3 units will die next round by poison leaving only one unit that can do some damage. That unit will also be dead in the next round. Then it just comes down if the Gelatinous Cube can out heal my attacks.
That was the strategy of my opponent try to out heal and expect only one unit left with immunity or a cleansed unit.

Round 3:

image.png

Wow forgot about the scavenger that is a nice pay while Gelatinous Cube gain health also its heal be improve.
Well in the end of the round it only has 6 health so it will be killed before it can heal again in the next round.

Round 4:

Done enough damage to kill the last two unit with a trample by the Diemonshark star of this battle.

Conclusion

I like to deviate from time to time off of the default strategy with Noxious Fumes. The default strategy is often bring one or two immunity units and a strong tank that is being cleansed.
This battles shows that with a single cleanse its also possible.

That is one of the great things of splinterlands there are many strategies. Even if i will write a next blog post about Noxious Fumes you will see a different battle with probably a different set of units with different reasoning.

That's all for this week hope you enjoyed reading this ruleset strategy/analysis. See you all on the battlefield.
