"What have the Splinterlands Ever Done For Us" asks the Hive Community

What has Splinterlands ever done for us.png

Splinterlands applied for DHF funding last week and have failed to get the votes above the threshold to guarantee the proposal full funding. A debate broke out after Splinterlands made it known in their proposal that they may have to expand to other blockchains if they do not get the funding needed from Hive.

In a sort of Life of Brian comedy skit the Hive Community are seriously asking the question about what Splinterlands has ever done for us in a Hive town hall? Let's go live!

Source

"They take everything we have , and not just us but from our fathers , and our fathers, fathers."

"And from our fathers , fathers fathers"

Calm down there Sarge. Our fathers fathers fathers had no internet. You are drunk again. How did that guy get back in here. Is he not banned from every Discord yet. Kick him out?

AND WHAT HAVE THEY EVER GIVEN US IN RETURN????

[ASKS DISCORD GROUP]

Discord hand goes up!

The Onboarding?

What?

The Onboarding?
Did they not onboard thousands of Hive users as a result of the popularity of their game?

OK OK they did give us that.

That's true.

[Hand goes up]

and the Vibrant Splinterlands Community with 11,000 subscribers and over 500 Active Users per day?

[Hand goes up]

Didn't they build Hive Engine and Hive Keychain in Order to Onboard More Users and Create Liquidity??

Oh yes that is true they did , oh remember what Hive used to be like without Hive Engine. Terrible place. No liquidity.

Oh OK the onboarding and the large community and the building of Hive Engine and Keychain are the three things that Splinterlands have done.

And the purchase of millions of Hive on exchanges to fund their user accounts?

Well obviously the purchase of Hive!! The mass purchase of Hive goes without saying doesn't it!
But apart from the onboarding , the vibrant user Community, the building of Hive Engine, the initial funding of Hive Keychain and the purchase of millions of Hive on external markets what has Splinterlands ever done for us?

Marketing?]

Increased Level of Web3 Gaming Attracted to Hive?

Some of the first NFT's to exist on any blockchain?

Hive Liquidity Pools with DEC, VOCHERS AND SPS?

Making Hive Users Money in the bull run?

Promoted the Hive Blockchain.

Changed their name from Steem Monsters to Splinterlands and move to the Hive Blockchain

Yeah alright fair enough

And the airdrops

[CROWD AGREEING]

Yeah yeah that is something we would really miss if the Splinterlands left.

OK OK quieten down everybody

BUT APART

from the onboarding ,
the vibrant user Community,
the building of Hive Engine,
the initial funding of Hive Keychain
the purchase of millions of Hive on external markets,
the marketing
The increased level of web3 gaming
The first NFT's in Blockchain
The Hive Liquidity Pools
The Money Made in Splinterlands during the bull run that changed lives
The Promotion of the Hive Blockchain
The changing of their name from Steem Monsters and moving to Hive.
The airdrops

WHAT

HAS

SPLINTERLANDS

EVER

DONE

FOR

US

???

Very disappointed that the Splinterlands proposal has not got funding.
It is a real failure of decentralisation and calls into question whether there really is any other valid use case for public blockchains other than Bitcoin.

If Hive users are so narrow minded and detached from reality then centralised shit coins with lots of VC backing will steal all our good projects.

It is a real failure of decentralisation

? Anyone who has HIVE power can vote, they only need about 15% of all HIVE power 26m HIVE power, the founder of Splinterlands himself is a witness with votes worth 73.5m HIVE POWER, and will probably be able to reach the minimum to be funded. Do you see people making posts asking for votes for the proposal? Not even Aggroed asked for it on his blog.

If Hive users are so narrow minded and detached from reality then centralised shit coins with lots of VC backing will steal all our good projects.

I don't believe they will give free money, they will ask for something. Now HIVE is not asking for anything in return, in fact splinterlands is not decentralized, it is not open source and it has not even said the plans for the money.

I agree. It's sad really. If you look at it though, are we really decentralised? The DHF threw $200,000 at a rally car whose owner sits on less than 1000HP so far in 2024. They have $22,000 HBD to a conference event in Rio whose expertise is questionable and whose total account value is $44. What are we doing?? We all know Splinterlands ain't perfect but I would be 1000 times happier if the funds were spent by them than some gym street workout in Venezuela that have no ROI. If I was anyone in the Splinterlands team I would be livid.

Is it still possible for it to get funding? Where would I go to see that?

There's still plenty of time to vote. Do you use the PeakD frontend? If so, just click your name in the top right, look for the word "Proposals", click. Look for Splinterlands DHF and vote.

A little soon to be jumping to that conclusion. In a decentralized environment, not getting your way is to be expected and even appreciated. If everyone thought the same way and supported the same things at all times, this would be a cult. Those aren't known to be decentralized.

You're ignoring 23m HP as of this writing. All in support. Roughly 650 votes (small turnout for such a large operation). "Hive users." All of them. "Narrow minded"... ? No. They're not.

Don't worry. I know what it's like to be frustrated. I'm not giving you shit.

Rather than claiming the sky is falling, perhaps find a few words of encouragement. I can guarantee you there are many people and a lot of HP sitting out there, oblivious to all this. And I know they'd be in support of it. If they were to stumble into your words and hear about this for the first time, they'd think it's over and there's no more time to vote.

The main issue is a simple lack of interest when it comes to participating in things like this event. Many are unaware or preconditioned to feel powerless so don't bother lifting a finger. People need to know they matter. If these systems were running at their full potential, that proposal would be backed by thousands of small votes.

Get people involved and you'll see an entirely different picture.

How many of those people they onboarded are actually active on Hive though? I would venture to guess most of them don't even know what Hive is or what it can do, they just know that they log into Splinterlands and it works. I don't consider that one a valid point on their part.

But they are all on Hive. Every transaction / battle is a transaction so they are all doing bits on blockchain. Just most are not blogging! But I'm not sure we could blame them. 😂

Are they buying and staking Hive though? I just don't see it the same way if that isn't the case. It feels more like a net zero sort of thing even if they are doing transactions.

Well I would assume they are buying Hive as a way of buying DEC and SPS. That's how I buy SPS anyway. It's interesting you should say net zero @bozz. I have a crypto buddy in work that is ahead of the game in a number of ways. He told me the other day that Hive being free and having no fees is a bad thing. On normal blockchains the stakers receive all the fees. Staking on here does not have the best ROI .It is funds tied up and I do wonder why people have not powered down and throw it all into HBD savings. You are staking to give other people more funds in upvotes. As it is a sin to upvote yourself then the only thing staking does is enhance your member by a couple of inches and increase your standing in Hive.

Yeah, it is an interesting system for sure. It's possible we might never see things turn out the way we hope. I enjoy the people though and the blogging is a bit fun for me whether anyone reads it or not. I just feel like a lot of people take from the platform and don't necessarily give as much back. That or they expect something for virtually nothing.

If they aren't and they are transacting on Hive, someone is, to lend them RCs. 😉

But I agree, more can be done to transform Splinterlands players into users of the broader Hive ecosystem. That doesn't explain the proposal not passing yet, though, in my opinion.

I don't doubt a lot of people came to Hive because of the game. It would just be nice to see them stick around or branch out a bit.

What's Splinterlands? Just kidding, I know that it's Magic the Gathering for techy people.

Let's not forget, they (along with Rising Star) still fill about 50% of the feeds on all the Hive microblogging platforms!

Hive engine and Hive keychain were done before splinterlands. If you count those, then you can also say that Hive created splinterlands. We're in a paradox.

The DHF should fund Splinterlands at this point because we love them, not necessarily because of what they do for us but because we're their daddy.
