Just 3 Weeks Later, McBat is Moon Bound!!!
To show you all just how nutty the world of crypto & NFT’s are, I’m presenting to you this post. It was a mere 23 days ago, when I popped up the write up below.
https://peakd.com/nft/@blewitt/my-batman-is-stuck
In it I discussed how I was lucky enough to snag three of Veve’s McFarlane Batman Black & White NFT’s back in March for the cost of around $80 bucks a pop. With McFarlane being my all time favorite comic artist along with holding an enormous amount of respect and admiration from a large population of the comic world, I thought it was a smart play.
Well just a mere 23 days ago in that piece above, I discussed how the McBat’s were creeping towards the $3000 mark, which was truly badass. What’s even more badass is that just 3 weeks later, those very same McBat’s have a floor just shy of $6000!!!
It’s pretty wild to watch these things take on a life of their own. It seems lots of Veve assets, including many of the Batman Black & White’s, are pumping hard. The Eduardo Russo one which happens to be the very first of the physical statues released way back in I believe 2004, seems to be creeping towards $15k!!!
Definitely makes me wish I would have been a bit smarter and less hesitant in securing more of these. I feel as though I’ve been a tad conservative in “fully committing” when it comes to my crypto investment hunches, and it’s why I’m pushing all my chips in when it comes to Splinterlands. Not making that same mistake again.
But for now, it’s definitely cool to see the floor rising as the lower priced ones get devoured. I hope Veve figures out what I find to be 2 glaring problems with their lines though. I know they are supposed to be working on withdrawing off their platform. That is a big issue that I do think needs to be rectified sooner rather than to later.
The other is to give these things some form of utility. I don’t know what exactly, but it’s GOTTA do something…right?!? It’s why I love the utility that my Splinterlands assets give me. I can use em to battle in game, to earn rewards daily, rent em out, buy & sell, and soon I’ll be able to utilize em on lands. They hold some form of utility which I think will be key down the line in the NFT space.
As a collector and reseller (through my comic shop) of the physical statues for around 15 years, my dumb brain has a hard time deciphering how the digital version seems to command nearly 15 times its physical counterpart. But, it is what it is and my tiny dumb brain has to try to learn the ropes as I go I guess. I just wish these did something…maybe earn you exclusive access to limited edition exclusive variant cover comics…or discounts off of DC merch. Something….
I might be sounding a bit harsh on Veve, but it’s because I like what they seem to be doing there…mostly. Their licensing is very reminiscent of Funko to me. Funko has dominated the Vinyl collectibles scene due in part to their wonderful catalogue of awesome licenses at their fingertips. I think Veve is adding lots of great licenses…I just…want their NFT’s to do something dammit!!! 😜
Maybe in time that will happen, or maybe these will just remain “collectible” for the sake of being “collectible”. Regardless, I’m going to hang onto these badboys for a bit. But if these mofo’s hit over $10k each at a time where we are allowed to withdraw our funds properly and easily….my plan is to move at least 1 of my 3, but no more than 2, and put the funds directly into more Splinterlands Plots of Land.
The idea of being able to mint my own NFT’s with utility in a growing project is just too appetizing. Run free McBat…to the moon with you!!!

Bro that’s dope yours are going up in value so much. Congrats!
I didn’t purchase my first NFTs until November. I loaded up on ones that I not only liked, but believed in to do well. Nothing spectacular has happened yet with them, but I have hopes that at some point in 2022 I’ll look at it as a wise decision, rather than buying too many too soon.
Thx man. I mainly did it as I’m a huge fan of the artist that the specific piece is based on. But yeah…luck plays a big part in it of course.
I only have so much funds to go around and I’m kinda all in on Splinterlands, so at the moment I’m not really messing around with much else. What are you dabbling it yourself?
https://www.rareghostclub.com/ is the only thing outside of Hive I've taken the time to get involved with. I hate ETH man. I'm so used to the luxuries that we have over here.
I also have some Hive Punks and Hive Folks. Guess I will have a bunch of Ragnarok cards soon too. I actually am not into Splinterlands much at all, despite all of the success there. I'm definitely happy it's happening on Hive though and love what they are doing.
Looking forward to this other P2E game coming soon too. Check out https://peakd.com/hive-102223/@nftstudios/chifibots-pre-sale-a-play2earn-robot-trading-card-game-by-nft-studios if you haven't already.
Eth seems entirely impractical for literally everything. I cannot fathom how it’s as popular as it is. So I get that.
There are just so many projects and so many more on the way. I wish I could spread myself into a few other projects but I’m happily deep into SL. Lol
I’ll take a peek at these though. Maybe a tiny peek can’t hurt…right?
That's a great gain, it's pretty much the way I feel about Crypto Raiders - I bought 1 at about the same price - around $80, and their token at $1, now my initial investment has gone up more than 10 times and of course I'm wishing I'd invested 10 times more, but i remember $80 seeming like a lot of money to spend on an NFT at the time!
Money has become such an odd thing to me since I started with all this madness. I’ll find myself uestioning if I should get the 8 or 12 piece wings out to eat as it’s a few bucks more…but don’t bat an eye upgrading my Yodin for thousands. 😂
Oh I'm exactly the same.
Worse: I don't eat out, it's too expensive, but then I spent around $3K on Pizza tokens a f ew month back.
ONEUPs doing well, talking about tokens. Currently enjoying a game of chicken-pool. Wondering whose gonna jump first with the SWAP-HIVE pool.
Sadly, my fat ass eats out too often. I need to get into some of these pools asap. If I want to grow my SPS, which do you recommend?
Man, so much value gain! How do you pick them? I know, I know, you breathe comics, but it is still an insane choice.

Hey brother!
To be honest, I only chose that specific one as it was based off the art of my favorite comic artist. Lol. Sooooo lucky guess?!?
He is insanely popular and I had a feeling if any of them would do well, this would be it. Luckily for collectors of this line, they all seem to be doing well.
Happy new year my friend!
Luck you build yourself. You have the knowledge and use it.

Nice return!
This is pretty much definitely FOMO, fad, craze, etc... Same is true for most of the NFT space right now. IMO your desire for utility is key to the future of NFTs. NFT haters don't understand utility exists because all they see is stupid generated useless pictures selling for thousands of dollars. Which is ridiculous. But in the long run I really think for NFTs to have value they need utility. That's why games, like Splinterlands, is such a great use case for them.
I had an idea, if I had the time to do it... to build a digital comics platform that allowed people to 'publish' a comic book. It always seemed like there were two reasons digital comics never really took off. 1. Just doesn't have the same feel... which I can't do anything about haha. But 2. No collectability. Which NFTs remedy.
So my thought was to build a digital comics platform, sort of like Comixology, for reading and also build in trading, selling, buying, sharing (sort of like delegating in Splinterlands.) Then also have a self publishing avenue, which is essentially the comic's copyright owner minting/publishing a run of their comic. So if they want to do a release of 3000 copies for issue #1 and sell them for $2.99, they could do that. First editions!
It would make it so much more like collecting physical comics. Also does not seem extremely difficult to do. Really surprised it does not exist yet (if it doesn't, haven't really looked too much.)
Sounds super interesting! I love that I’m not the only one do thinks of ideas that I’ll never actually work on for a zillion different reasons. Lol
I am A.D.D. so... I have a million ideas, a thousand unfinished projects, and a hundred things to do at a time. 😅
I have thought about the NFT comic platform a lot... could not only have comic books. But strips. Motion comics. Original Art too. Like limit the original art postings to only original art from comic books that were published on the platform to keep it on topic. Then I thought, it would be cool to create a physical product that is like those digital picture frames but have it linked to the platform's app so it can display your NFT art or comic covers. Or even full comics. So you can flip pages with the app and basically read a comic book on your wall. 😆
So many cool ideas! This era is going to be interesting to see how creative folks can be with NFT's
