WOO! Perry Saturn talks about Wrestlers, Stiff Hits, and Ring Psychology!

We've had lots of WOO news in the past few days so let's take a break and head back to reviewing the interviews with Perry Saturn! In today's interview, Perry shared his thoughts on his initial struggles in adapting to WWF's (now WWE) wrestling style.

• Wrestling Psychology:

  • Saturn talked about differences in match psychology between WWE and WCW. He referenced Chris Benoit, who struggled with WWE's style, despite his talent.

• Struggles with Change:

  • Saturn learned Memphis-style wrestling but was resistant to adapting to WWE’s approach, which may have contributed to his shorter tenure there.

• Chris Jericho’s Toughness:

  • Saturn emphasized Jericho’s resilience, recalling how Chris endured tough tours in Japan and even stood his ground against WCW stars like Goldberg and Scott Steiner.

• Tensions in the Locker Room:

  • Saturn recounted the friction between WCW and WWF wrestlers during the Monday Night Wars, noting how many top stars were resistant to outsiders like Jericho rising to the top.

• Stiff Shots in the Ring:

  • Saturn addressed the culture of stiff shots (harder-than-usual hits) in wrestling. He mentioned that wrestlers often forget their own stiff moves but always remember receiving one.

• Brian Christopher Incident:

  • Saturn shared a story where Brian Christopher accused him of being too stiff during their matches. Saturn defended his style, explaining how he made spots look painful without actually causing harm.

• Stiff but Safe:

  • Saturn described his approach to being physical in the ring—he didn’t mind being hit hard and ensured his own hits were safe while looking impactful.

I must say that Perry's experience shows us that life isn't the bed of roses that the media portrays it as. Even the professionals themselves actually have their own difficulties and have to work extra hard to put on the show that all of us are able to enjoy from the comfort of our homes! So let's appreciate them even more!
