Let's get this party started!

While many people have been celebrating for a while now, today marks the beginning of the Christmas festivities for me. This weekend will be filled with all manner of preparing, eating, celebrating, and whatever else. All running up to Christmas day on Monday. Given the fact it is a major holiday, I can't say one way or the other if I will be posting on Monday right now.

This time of year is always quite busy, rushing here, rushing there, buying last minute presents, buying ingredients necessary to make that special holiday dish that everyone loves. Distant relatives, weird aunts or uncles, delicious treats, and childlike joy all collide in one great big crescendo of holiday havoc.

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" as the old song goes.

Meanwhile, crypto continues to do crypto things. We've seen a bit of a consolidation around $40,000 give or take a couple thousand. This seems to be a level that Bitcoin is very familiar with. Remember that time it bounced between $38K and $42K for what seemed like forever?

I actually talk about that a bit in this post I wrote yesterday. If you haven't checked it out yet, you definitely should, I am quite proud of it.

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.

In a bit of a controversial move, I've decided I am not going to do anymore big Hive power ups for the time being. I will still probably power up a little bit on January 1st just so I can get that HPUD badge, but you won't be seeing any 500+ HP power ups from me for a bit.

Instead, I am going to be focusing on building up a supply of liquid Hive. I want to have some on hand for when the bull run happens and we finally see the price of Hive pump again. I don't like the idea of powering down my Hive and I don't want to have to wait for the power down to occur if I did go that route.

My hope is that I can maybe have a couple thousand Hive saved up by the time the price finally pumps to a level that I feel comfortable selling. Ideally, I will have enough saved up that I can do some small sells on the way up instead of having to wait for what I think is the top.

I trust no one will view this lack of powering up as me having lost faith in this community or this chain. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm just trying to play the hand I have been dealt as wisely as possible.

I shared a while ago the Army branded 1 oz silver bar that I am going to give my nephew/godson for Christmas. I also plan on pairing it with one of these 2024 Dragon rounds that I picked up. I actually bought two of them, one for him and one for myself to keep.

I'll trust one of my friends on Hive to tell me what the characters say in the medallion that the dragon is holding. I like the pairing of the dragon with the tree. I am guessing that is a common motif in Chinese culture. Correct me if I am wrong.

These rounds were distributed by Asahi Refining and as you can see they are part of the Lunar Calendar Series. As a relatively new person to the world of silver stacking, I have often wondered why they are .999 silver and not 100%. Is there something they need to add to allow the rounds to keep their shape? Is it just a CYA sort of thing? If anyone knows, feel free to explain it to me in the comments.

Whatever the reason, I think my nephew is really going to dig the pieces I got for him this year. I know I am excited to add this one to my collection!

Along with Christmas parties, it also feels like we could be celebrating a different kind of party before too long. I'm talking about a bull party. It's been a long time coming hasn't it?

The thing about Christmas is it means the new year is right around the corner. That time of year when we (hopefully) slow down a bit and evaluate the year that was. It can be a time of reflection and while you are reflecting on the year behind you, I also encourage you to reflect on the year to come as well.

I missed the bull cycle in 2017/2018. I survived a full one in 2020/2021, but will be the first to admit I made my fair share of missteps. I'm committed to doing better next time and I hope we all make some good decisions.

My best advice: First, find a stable you love (looking good HBD!), and have a known path for getting all of your tokens into that. Second, have some soft targets in place so you can take gains on the way up. I plan on writing a longer post about this in the future, so stay tuned. Finally, take those gains, tuck them away, and wait for the right time to buy back in.

I know it sounds so simple, but trust me, when tokens are mooning and the hype is here, it can be easy to forget.
