SGS Splinterlands Assets and the Wild Pass

For those who don’t follow developments in the Splinterlands Ecosystem, they have just introduced the Wild Pass – which is an extra expense every season for playing in Wild Ranked. Unfortunately for SGS that is exactly what we do with the Splinterlands Assets that the community owns because we use the Archmage Bot to generate a modest passive income from those assets.

So the question I have is whether this new expense every season is going to severely impact on the earning potential of the SGS Splinterlands Assets and whether we should do anything about it. To do a bit of a recap, the value of the SGS Splinterlands Assets according to Peak Monsters is currently around $444 USD. Once again this is a drop since the last update, though hardly surprising since the HIVE Ecosystem as a whole has been getting hit pretty hard lately.

Last season the assets earned 129.904 SPS from Ranked Play and 113.237 SPS from Brawls. The current value of the Ranked Play SPS is about $1.12 USD and the best price for the Wild Pass costs 40 VOUCHERs which is worth about $0.89 USD so as things stand the Wild Pass is going to eat most of the SPS revenue from Ranked Play, making it a questionable proposition going forward.

There is some optimism that the SPS rewards for Ranked Play will increase once the Bot Farms have been driven out (I believe this is the intention of the DAO) but we will need to wait a season or 2 to see if this the case. The price of the ARCHMAGE Bot Token has collapsed from a high of 45 HIVE in April to just 2.2 HIVE today so resale value on the ARCHMAGE Token is not great at the moment either.

All up this is not a good situation and while I am personally pretty disappointed in the way things are going (both with Splinterlands and HIVE overall) there isn’t a lot we can do about the current state of play. All we can do is make the best decisions at the time for the assets we control with the information we have at hand.

I’d personally like to give the Wild Pass a season to see if SPS Rewards improve or if the Wild Pass price / rules change again before making any major changes because often knee-jerk implementations like this get tweaked or rolled back when they hit the player base and the Blowback arrives. However, as always I am open to community comments, concerns or suggestions if our members have any.

I agree. I think you have to try it to see. I also agree with your take on splinterlands and hive, unfortunately.

To recap, so it!

(Edited)

Ive bought the pass for my account. I think im at a loss now, because i dont have enough staked SPS to make my wild pass payment back.

I didnt buy any of the new rebellion packs, because i was heavily invested in A,B and Untamed cards, and didnt want to change up a deck im familiar with, and to be honest, its a pretty decent deck too!! So why spend all that money on buying additional cards just to mess arpund with my style of play!!??!

As i said, im now losing money just to play a few games, and while i still enjoy the strategy side of it, it definitely is losing its appeal right now. Never mind losing the bots, they may end up losing a good few number of genuine players too.

I think you are dead right. There will be more than a few lower ranked players who will liquidate because of this...and not just the bot farmers.

I think running a season to see what happens is a good idea. It's not going to hurt really. I like the fact that you can use vouchers to pay for it.

A lot of tokens are really falling
I saw someone predict a bull run very soon though and I hope it happens

I'm rather worried too, I gave it a go with a pass this season to see if it's worth it. It's only been a day so it will be awhile before I know for sure. I've been disappointed by the game as of late as well.

I wish I had a better idea, if the vouchers are already in the account why not give it a one season test?

There aren't vouchers on the account. I sold them a while ago for a lot more than they're worth today, so I'm glad I did.

That was a smart move, those vouchers are worthless now!

Greeting
Happy season reset
Thank you for sharing your progression and appreciation with regard to the latest updates.
Do you think that the price of SPS in the market may start an uptrend if the bot farming and dump SPS are dry?

I got to make time for this game somehow, I'm still sitting on a bunch of unopened packs.
