Maximizing Score in Soulkeep - the "Do's and Don'ts" of the Soulkeep Meta for now... 8-17-24
Good morning Soulkeepers, Hivers and Praetorians!
CaptainDingus here with another banger here... but no mash. That's a little morning humor... excuse me... humour... for my lads & lasses across the pond...
The Tower Defense game Soulkeep launched on Hive a little over a month ago and there have been some MAJOR changes since then!
It's hard to keep up with all of the updates. To encourage the n00bs to play and keep playing... plus to give them a fair shot at earning prizes and $SPS... I wanted to write a quick guide on maximizing score, regardless of League!
Plenty of strategies have come and gone so I am going to cover the BIG THREE for right now. Basically I am going to give you my 3 TOP TIPS on how to earn the best score you can!
Why should you listen to me?? I've played since day three of Launch and I routinely place at the top of my League... The latter being most important lol
Number one... and I hope you pay attention... because I am only going to say this ONCE!! ONE TIME YA HEAR!!!
At the end of EACH WAVE... Your remaining Hearts... 👏 GIVE 👏 YOU 👏 POINTS 👏
This means TWO things... you want to ensure you have MAXIMUM HEARTS... FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!!
How can you do that? Well... the most OBVIOUS way... is to not let any of those slimly little weaselly Fiends slip past your death dealing towers of destruction and your Legolas sister lookin ass CeleneDion of Mayhem (thank you "MasterSplinter-Lands" for that one)
But here is something else to consider: The spell HEARTGIVER
Fire this bad boy off round one to give you a BONUS number of Hearts to get through the waves... and each wave those hearts get you BONUS SCORE!
Even in the lower leagues 5 extra hearts for each wave for 6 waves is a TON of points!! Check out the math below 👇
Consider this: at 50 Points per Heart... if you get 5 extra Hearts from Heartgiver... 5 x 50 is 250 points PER WAVE... and with 6 waves... 6 x 250 is 1,500 more points than another player who DOESN'T use Heartgiver (assuming you both have perfect runs)... FIFTEEN HUNDRED POINTS!!
Alright recruits, gather round and listen closely... come a little closer... that's right... get in real close and let CaptainDingus share a secret with you...
Unless you will get overrun and DIE... this guy right here... Voodoo Sapper... is a MUST PLAY... I mean... YOU GOTTA PLAY IT... why???
Because the SECOND thing that boosts your score... IS THE AMOUNT OF MANA YOU EARN FROM KILLING FIENDS... Yes. You read that right. 1:1 Direct Correlation!!
The Voodoo Sapper ability is: "Earn BONUS Mana for each fiend VOODOO SAPPER KILLS"
So be CAREFUL with your tower placement! In order to earn the Bonus Mana and the BONUS SCORE... VOODOO SAPPER MUST BE THE TOWER TO KILL THE FIEND!!
Example Scenario: You and another player kill a bunch of baddies... you use Voodoo Sapper and they don't... Let's say your Voodoo Sappers kill ALL of the enemies...
You both kill 100 Fiends... They earn 100 points... YOU earn 120 points... after 6 Waves... 600 vs 720 points!! Guess who's the champ here... YOU ARE.
Not to mention you can play more Towers/Spells/Upgrades because you have earned MORE MANA!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Voodoo Sapper's "Mana Bonus %" 👏 VARIES 👏 BY 👏 LEAGUE 👏
Ok pukes... time for the final bit of score boosting, leaderboard rank improving, Chad maki - ok... well... not that last bit...
So... you made it to number three... you think you got what it takes to use these newfound skills and climb out of the mucky-muck that is the bottom half of the Leaderboard to EARN YOU SOME $SPS... WELL DO YA?!?
Mana Mania is another HIGH PRIORITY play... This Spell boosts the Mana... THUS THE SCORE... when Fiends DIE inside the spell circle!
I cannot stress this enough... 👏 BE 👏 CAREFUL 👏 WHERE 👏 YOU 👏 PLACE 👏 THIS👏 SPELL 👏
The Fiends MUST DIE INSIDE IT... to get you the Bonus Points and SCORE!! Make sure you are able to KILL a LOT OF FIENDS inside that Spell Circle!!!

I only have voodoo sapper but can definitely see where those other two would be very instrumental in getting high spots
They are absolutely critical for Leaderboard positions.
We may not like the Meta... but if we want to consistently place well and earn $SPS... we need to understand the Meta ;)

Unless you die in the first wave or something... those bonus Hearts/Points are a HUGE factor in taking home the big prizes :)
I do all of those things already, and I still seem to max out about 2000-3000 points below the people who consistently get the top spots. There is something they know that I don't.
My guesses are Card Level, Tower/Spell Positioning and Upgrade Choices
Make sure all your cards are at your League Max - this isn't Splinterlands and there are HUGE differences between Card Levels!
Positioning Towers/Spells is muy importante!
Remember, the Voodoo Sapper upgrade tree is still busted...
If you upgrade the Voodoo Sapper Damage first... THEN the Speed... it will RESET YOU TO THE BASE DAMAGE... Do NOT do this!
Always... and I mean always... upgrade the Speed of the Voodoo Sapper FIRST... if you choose to do that... for 50 Mana, you get a 10% boost... after that though, the 125 Mana gets you 2% and the 3rd one is another 2%...
To me, II & III are NOT worth it... but to each their own. Tbf, I quite often forget to upgrade the first speed lol 🤦♂

Thanks! I do have them all maxed for league 5. I'm guessing it's got to be the placement. I was experimenting yesterday with the spell that makes fiends turn around, to send them back toward Mana Mania and the Voodoo Sappers. That seemed to get me a few extra points. I just wish we could experiment more. It's so expensive to play, so I don't want to try things that might work but are more likely to just screw me over.

My break only ended up being half a day. I am not playing nearly as many attempts, though.
I used to have over 20k Hive staked, but I sold most of it when Hive was up between $1 and $2 and bought a lot of Splinterlands assets with it, which are now down like 95%. Womp womp.
I should try to make more content again. I used to post a lot of Splinterlands content way back in the day.
