Splinterlands Is 6 Years Old: Change Is The Only Constant

In my previous posts celebrating 6 years of Splinterlands, I've written about how I discovered the game, a bit of the gameplay, some achievements and items that I'm most proud of, as well as goals going forward.

In today's post, I want to look at some aspects of the game that have undergone big changes in recent months

Changes to the rewards system

We used to have daily loot chests for almost the entirety of Splinterlands' history. First it was quests and getting a fixed 5 chests. Then, it changed to earning more chests based on how many games you played and won.

Now, there's a slight modification to that. You earn a new currency called Glint, that you can then spend to buy rewards at Gwen's Glint Shop. The price of chests will increase as you buy more, so this will act as an inflation curb.

I've tried buying both buying a guaranteed Legendary card as well as going the Ultimate Chest route. Personally, the ultimate chests have been a little underwhelming and I'd recommend players go for the guaranteed Legendary or Epic draws.

You can now consume potions for the draw, so that might improve things. But don't count on it. I'll be going for the Epic draws come the end of the season because that's where I see the most value. Legendary cards are way too expensive, as they should be.

Combined Splinters

The other exciting new feature is the ability to combine splinters with the new summoners. Previously, the only combination possible was Dragon + some other splinter. But with Rebellion, we're now able to combine 2 splinters in one team. This opens up a lot of possibilities.

The only downside to these summoners is that they don't boost the units. So any boost will have to come from the unit cards, which isn't much of a problem other than Magic boost. I don't think there's any ability for that at the moment. Chuul Jujinchi looks the best with Earth and Life splinters being a good fit together. Imagine Kron the Undying in front of 4 other tank healing units.

The game keeps evolving

There have been lots of changes to Splinterlands and I'm sure it's going to continue that way. It's a fine balance between keeping the game fresh and alienating older players. Overall, I think the team have done a good job on the gameplay side. Looking forward to them to making some necessary market changes that I outlined in my earlier post.

I think I tried the ultimate chest last season I'm not certain and it was truly underwhelming, but I heard some people got beta packs. I think the amount of chest one earns matters too. If one weeks close to 300k glints per season then they can gamble with all these chest.

I prefer the epic draws because you know what you're getting

300k glints in a season is crazy but they've put in the money. I'm only able to get about 30k but maybe 40k might be possible if I play more.

Yes they've put in more money and I'm not surprised they're earning that much. I mostly earn about 40k plus glints this season 46k getting close to 50 is virtually impossible for me. But you're right more owned SPS more Glints
