Taking Part In My First Tournament In Almost Forever

There are a couple of aspects to Splinterlands that aren't a core part of the game. Guilds are one. Another one is tournaments. You can go on for years without playing in a tournament and still enjoy the game. I know i've played in one but it must have been at least three years back.

But I just so happened to accidentally click on the Events icon and the first tournament on the list stood out. It was organized by KryptoGamers and the rules were pretty beginner friendly.

Tournament Registration and Rules

It cost 1 DEC to register but as you can see, as long as you finish in the top 100, you make a 10x return. Or at least 5x return, if you don't know how to set up the Kryptogamers Lightning wallet.

There were no Legendaries allowed, which kind of crimps my style, as I heavily rely on them. Especially Kron and the Kraken. Older decks aren't allowed, so some of my favorite cards like Alric would be missing as well. Still, it is a good opportunity to see where I stand.

Team selection

Anytime team selection in tournaments is a lot like Guild battles. You get the battles at the Team Select Time and have a specified period, usually 24 hours, to put in your teams. It doesn't take a lot of time and you don't have to be glued to your screen. That's what I like about the game... it allows life to happen without requiring too much attention.

Rankings

I did well enough in the first round that I made it to round two. Here's where things started to go awry. I only won 4 out of 11 battles and this cost me quite a bit as you will soon see.

I came in 29th, 4 places off 25th, which would have won me 100 DEC. But the margins were a lot closer. In fact, just another win instead of a loss would have got me there. Need to prepare a little more next time.

Play more tournaments

Tournaments are an aspect of the game that I've neglected, despite having played for so long. They're a great way to get more battles in and usually cost a token sum to enter apart from the big tournaments. Thanks to all the tournament organizers out there! I'll definitely be playing in more tournaments in the future. What about you?

That's amazing, I've never participated in one. To be very honest, I heavily rely on some older cards too and legendaries as well and to come in 29th place is very decent.. you must've thought out different new as strategies to actually win.

It was definitely a good experience and I'm thinking I should do a tourney every week. Doesn't take much time. Some newer Epics might be required in order to place in the top 10 but top 25 does seem doable with the current deck.

It's doable. It's why it's good to give a blend of both old and new cards. The return is actually very decent if you ask me
