When You Lose Your Magic

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Lost Magic ruleset and see what strategy works when you can't use magic units in battle. This extends to units with two types of attack, one of which is magic.

So the theory is that you should use Thorns and Demoralize to counter melee attacks and
Headwinds and Return Fire to beat ranged attacks. And of course, the Shield ability should be highly beneficial.

For this battle, I have gone with Mylor Crowling because I want all my units to have Thorns since it's 50/50 whether my opponent goes for a melee or range strategy.

1st position - Goblin Mech - The OG Tank from back in the Beta days. Good shield, health and attack.
2nd position - Furious Chicken - Some buffer space for 0 mana.
3rd position - Sand Worm - Strong sneak attack and also has decent health.
4th position - Screeching Vulture - For some opportunistic attack and also hopefully flying will make my opponent's attack miss.
5th position - Battering Ram - Also an opportunistic attacker but a bit faster.

Looking at my opponent's lineup, I know this was going to be a good battle, because I went with Thorns to thwart my opponent. He had gone with an almost all melee lineup, which plays into my hands. His Gobson would be a wild card, though.

But by round 2, thanks to Thorns, Gobson wasn't a problem anymore. That's the beauty of Thorns - anything less than 3 damage and it literally becomes worse for the opponent to hit you.
