SPS Governance Proposal - Convert and Power Up Swap.HIVE

avatar
(Edited)

The purpose of this proposal is to take the swap.hive that has been in the DAO's possession and sitting idle on hive-engine for over 2 years and utilize it to support Splinterlands ongoing DHF proposal while allowing the SPS DAO to support and grow its stake in the HIVE ecosystem.

If this proposal passes, the SPS DAO will withdraw all of it's 116,251.43 swap.hive from Hive Engine and turn it into HIVE and then stake it for HIVE Power. The SPS.DAO account will then support Splinterlands ongoing DHF proposal, set the @steemmonsters account as its voting proxy for HIVE governance voting and lastly it will begin trailing the votes from the @steemmonsters account to support community curation while growing the DAO's stake in the HIVE ecosystem through curation rewards.

Benefits:

  • Show the HIVE community that the SPS DAO is also invested into the greater HIVE ecosystem.
  • Take idle assets that haven't been utilized for over 2 years and begin earning a small APR on them through curation rewards.
  • Help support the Splinterlands DHF proposal.
  • Support community content creators on the HIVE blockchain with upvotes.

Cons:

  • Liquid assets become locked behind a 13 week unstaking period.
  • This small amount is not enough to push the Splinterlands DHF Proposal across the line.

Small edit:
Updated the proxy/vote trail account from @splinterlands to @steemmonsters as that is the correct account.

Excellent proposal, the only downside is not having done it earlier!

This seems very positive to me. Let the community mobilize.

The company should do the same, so that all the effort does not fall only on the community. Stop the power down, plus do power up with the liquid Hive and swap those HBD's for HP. It would give a message of more commitment, as they have sold more than half of their Hive Power, almost 2 million.

@clayboyn this is important to take into consideration, on the one hand, very positive proposal, but on the other hand the power down does not stop and basically with this we support the community that creates content about the game, many times marketing with the challenges.

I have no control over the company and clearly they need money, I know Matt addressed it and it's apparently only for a certain amount of the tokens. They need HP for the game to function so I doubt it's going too low.

I cannot dictate what the company or Matt chooses to do with their stake. I know he addressed it and I think they're only powering down a certain amount. Clearly they're in a tight spot or they wouldn't be asking for funding. They also have to maintain some HP to run the game, so I doubt it's going too low.

I want to mention HBD instead of HIVE because Splinterlands may need some liquidity to run the project. Let put HBD in saving to get 20% of APR and if the team needs $, it can be withdrawn within 3 days

Pros far outweigh the cons imo

Well, if it was sitting idle, it's always better to put it to work :-D

A more stable, higher return option would be to convert it to HBD and put it into the HIVE savings function. There is a 20% APY vs < 3% for powering up. In addition, the withdrawal period would only be 3 days.

In order to build the HIVE power of the DAO account, the monthly interest from the savings can be used to power up. This creates a way to achieve the proposal over time, while keeping the value in an asset designed to be stable resulting in a lower risk of depreciation.

I think this option would also show support for HIVE, adding $100k in HBD to the savings stats can't be bad. And putting idle assets to work is a no-brainer.

I don't think SL should be asking the DAO to support the DHF proposal. It just seems shady from my perspective and almost feels like a shakedown of sorts IMO.

And as far as voting proxy, I don't think Splinterlands and the DAO should be linked in that way, AT ALL. It's a sure fire way to have the profit interests of the company outweigh the benefit to newer players or old hats that are invested in the DAO. A slow bleed, or a fast one, it's 100% sure to happen. Them's the rules of capitalism.

The higher interest rate will generate a better DAO return first, but will, over the long run, create an ever growing upvote power to benefit content creators.

Oh it is shady but they were horribly run/managed and blew through all their money so they beggars now 😂

Splinterlands isn't asking. I had this thought and I had probably a dozen community members message me about making this proposal. They want the DAO to support the DHF proposal.

I find this proposal excellent, you have my support, although @clayboyn, the account that right now has voting power and the one we use to curate splinterlands community posts we the curators is @steemmonsters, shouldn't this be the account to track @sps.dao for greater curation benefits for the community?

Yea I can change it to the steemmonsters account.

Oh don’t forget

Con:
The community still funding/supporting a shitty company in Splinterlands.

This company/game is dead. Get out and sell your assets.

This was long overdue. I'm fully onboard with this idea.

Any more funds going handy so Splinterlands can build up their Hive and pass their own proposals in the DHF in a way which the largest funded DHF project Valueplan gets passed by 3 user accounts every time they propose for funds. Would be the way to go so we would not have to sweat!

If Splinterlands is staying on Hive, let's all work to make not just Splinterlands grow but Hive also.

Excellent proposal.

QUESTION (for anyone who knows HIVE): Can it publicly be seen how much voting power an account has via proxy? Ie if (say) an additional 100K Hive power was to be assigned to the @splinterlands account via splinterlands players assigning the account as their voting proxy, does this give the SPL acct more visible support? Or does that proxy vote show up as the individual/original accts voting?
Ie if the SPL acct has 100K HIVE power, and an additional 100K delegated via proxy, does it 'show up' as 200K for the SPL acct on the voting roll?

This seems like a no regret move for the DAO and a way to help us secure the support we're seeking from the ecosystem.

Yes in my book!

Yes, I support this proposal.
We shouldn't leave any assets idle for a long time while Splinterlands needs support from the Hive community to run the project.

Can we also get one up to take all HBD and put it into savings and earn 20% APR. Seems crazy to not be doing these things. Only a 3 day power down there as well so easy access to funds.

I'm working on a treasury guideline proposal that would have the ability to stake/unstake tokens worked into it. Not sure less than $3000 worth of HBD is worth its own proposal, but yea if I can't get the treasurer guidelines proposal going soon I'll put one together if you want.

I mean not thinking things are worth it is honestly what I think has gotten us into this mess in the first place. We could have been earning interest on various places for the last year or more to help cover costs. Revenue needs to be generated outside of just selling packs and fees from trades. I look forward to the treasury guidelines proposal.

Yea I get it, I'm mainly saying "if there's already about to be a proposal that would deal with it anyway" it's not worth it. As far as generating revenue... I'm working on a pretty massive defi expansion plan proposal that I think could see the DAO start generating some serious trading fees. Going to do a DAOn Hall about it Friday!
