Splinterlands - $75 Reward Card!

Splinterlands (aka Steem Monsters) is an online Trading Card Game running on the Steem blockchain and with some Tron blockchain functionality. This is the decentralized app (dApp) game that I play the most these days. It's absolutely top notch, there are constant improvements and additions to the game and if that wasn't good enough there are several ways to earn money playing Splinterlands!

One way to earn a profit from playing the game is to obtain free cards and then sell them. The value of a card generally goes up when the card is useful and limited availability. The most common cards can be purchased from other players for just pennies but there have been rare cards that have gone for hundreds of dollars!

One way to earn free cards is to complete your Daily Quest. At this time the daily quest is to win five battles with a specific splinter (magic type) in ranked play. Depending on your rank at the time you will get a certain number of free Reward edition cards. In addition, there are "seasons" in the game. A single season lasts two weeks. Depending on your final rank at the end of a season you will get some end-of-season rewards. Mostly this will be free Reward edition cards but if you place in the top 50 of all players that season you will also get some booster packs.

When the most recent season ended just a day or so ago I got very lucky. The above screenshot shows some of the reward cards I got. If you're not sure what you're looking at, I got three Legendary rarity cards! That's the highest category of rarity in the game. Also, one of them happened to be Gold Foil edition, which is even more rare version of the same card. This gold foil Black Dragon card is worth about $75 on the market right now.

There are potions you can buy to increase your chances of getting Gold Foil edition and Legendary rarity cards but I wasn't using either of those. I just got really lucky! Play this game long enough and you're bound to get really lucky like this here and there. Now I already had a level 3 (with only one card remaining to get it to level 4, which is maximum level for Legendary cards) in the regular non-gold foil version so I didn't really need this card. I managed to sell it to another member of my guild and I used the proceeds to buy some other cards that I really needed for my deck.
