๐บWhole masoor dal (brown lentils) - 3/4 cup
๐บMalka masoor dal (red lentils) - 1/4 cup
๐บWater - 4 cups
๐บOil - 2 tablespoons
๐บCumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
๐บAsafoetida (hing) - a pinch
๐บ Onion - 1, finely chopped
๐บ raw mango- 1/2
๐บGreen chilies - 2, finely chopped
๐บTurmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
๐บRed chili powder - 1 teaspoon
๐บ Salt - to taste
๐บFresh coriander leaves - for garnish

๐ฟ Wash both types of lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
๐ฟ In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils and 4 cups of water. Add salt, a piece of raw mango (optional), a little chopped onion, green chilies, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Close the lid and cook for 2-3 whistles. Once done, let the pressure release naturally and then open the lid.
๐ฟ Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Once the cumin seeds start to crackle, add the chopped onions and sautรฉ until they turn golden brown.
๐ฟAdd the tempering to the cooked lentils and mix well. Let the dal simmer on low heat for 2 minutes so the flavors blend well.
๐ฟ Transfer the dal to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with chapati, paratha, or rice.
