Share your battle - Time travel in Splinterlands! [EN - ESP]
This Wednesday we have travelled back in time. We didn't visit the Delorean or talk to Doc or Marty, but this week's challenge brings us to an interesting card in the life deck. It's Time Mage's turn and his ability to slow down enemy ranks. We look at this card in this week's article. Its abilities, strengths, weaknesses and a victorious battle as an example of its capabilities. Welcome to time travel in Splinterlands.
TIME MAGE
THE CARD
This week we talk about a rare card in the life deck. With a decent summoning cost and an ability that until the arrival of Chaos Legion had an absolute dominator: Creeping Ooze. The "booger" was the card that absolutely every Splinterlands player put in their lineups. Since the arrival of the Chaos Legion edition, Creeping Ooze has completely disappeared from our lives. Time Mage brings the slowdown ability that was key to Ooze. It also brings Magic Attack and a much longer life than that card that disappeared from our lives overnight.
Time Mage is a rare card. It costs 4 mana points to summon, one point of magic attack and a life of 3 points. Very balanced stats that are very useful in our life deck lineups. If, in addition, we place Lorna Shine as a summoner we will extend the life and, by extension, the validity of a card with very specific characteristics.
Time Mage's usability shines at the back of our line-up. It is clearly not a tank or a card to be used in the top positions. With her "Slow" ability, it's in our interest to protect her in the back centre of our line-up to make her difficult to attack and to take advantage of the speed point she takes away from our opponents. As we all know, speed is always a key point in battles, to the point of often determining the difference between victory and defeat.
THE TIME MAGE'S ABILITIES
As it is a rare card, its evolution goes up to level 8. To the ability "Slow" he adds, from level 5 onwards, the ability "Rust". An ability that few creatures possess and whose effect is to reduce the armour of all enemies. At maximum level Time Mage has a magic attack of 3 points, 5 speed and a life of 4 points. His market price is 0.25 dollars at level 1 and, if rented, costs a mere 0.12 dec/day. Again, an affordable card.

THE BATTLE
Life vs. life battle. In my line-up with Lorna as the summoner, and in my opponent's line-up with a regular like General Sloan. The opponent's strategy is clear: boost the ranged attack of their cards to tear my ranks apart. Incomprehensibly, the opponent has only placed two creatures with magic attack, so the general's ability is not decisive in this battle.
Card | Explanation |
---|---|
Lorna Shine | For me the best summoner in the life deck. Her Divine Sheild ability causes the first attack on every creature on your team to be reduced to zero. |
Shieldbearer | Tank with which I seek to take advantage of his Taunt ability to focus all attacks on him and allow the second line to do damage. A powerful second line that will shine thanks to this card. |
Luminous Eagle | A creature that flies and attacks from second position. In earthquake conditions it is a must have in the team. |
Gargoya Lion | His shield and being a flyer are the reasons to include him in the line-up. |
Celestial Harpy | Flying and Opportunity. Two important skills in this battle. Their mission is to do damage to the opposing second line. |
Time Mage | Earthquake conditions are not ideal for Time Mage. However, the idea was to take advantage of his ability for the first two rounds to give the rest of the line-up room to do damage to the opponent. |
Spirit Miner | Two magic attack points to avoid the shield of Elven Defender and Shieldbearer. A very powerful legendary card to finish my lineup. |
Finally the opponent surprised us. Their magic attack-heavy lineup rendered my summoner's ability useless. Mycelic Morphoid and Chaos Agent also proved to be useless. However, Unicorn Mustang's Void ability and Goblin's second line attacks made up for those small mistakes and gave us a good win against an opponent who wisely chose the lineup to counter my summoner.
CONCLUSIONS
The days of Creeping Ooze dominating Splinterlands are over. Now others like Time Mage are taking over the Slow ability, and in the life deck, Time Mage is unrivalled. An affordable card that can give us a good chance of victory especially in medium to high mana battles where it can be surrounded by the best cards in the life deck or neutrals. In short, an affordable card on the market and very useful. Its combination with Lorna makes it even more powerful as you can see in the attached battle.

Well done on the battlefield. But I don't think that after being a life monster, Time Mage can match Creeping Ooze which is a neutral monster.

Good analysis and considerations on Time Mage and I agree with you that Time Mage is a very useful card in battle.
As for Creeping Ooze and Time Mage I think they are both useful cards that have in common only the slow ability but they often have different uses because they have a different mana cost 😉
