Splinterlands Art Contest Week 227 - AGANJU

Hello, Terrastrians!

I've been on a bit of a roll of late. I have found a sort of, renewal and second wind for art after everyone in my family and friends forgot my birthday 🤣. I faced a bit of an existential crisis afterward and questioned my esteem and worth. But reading Nietztsch brought me out of that shadow and allow me to win a victory over a spirit of worthlessness. This painting is, in a way; in its form and aesthetics, that stupid strength to overcome in a sense. I learned to internally celebrate my own present power and life. I am Aganju.

Thumbnail Sketches

For this art, I did two thumbnail sketches with a black marker. I found that has gotten used to working in pencil and digital, removing a certain bit of risk and spontaneity. It allow a mode of focus that had been alien to me for 3 years.

I'll try to make a habit of making this kind of sketching and thumbnail.

Process

There isn't much to say here about the process that would be novel because if you've seen some of my prior work. The only thing that you might like to know is that the 1st and 2nd were two tries at the pose. The 2nd was the first block in but I found myself not satisfied with the pose and tried again, giving me the second one, which is what I went with.

I moved to block in the shadow and light values. My greatest worry here was trying to get that open-air feel from being outdoors and I needed that done in the greyscale phase.

I use the color blend mode to get the hues going, After that it was a matter of rendering the piece until my heart was content.
