Card Rarities and Combining Cards
Card Rarities in Splinterlands
Card rarity in Splinterlands defines the probability of finding them in a Booster Pack or Loot Chest, as well as the number of copies needed to raise their levels.
- Legendary: Legendary cards, framed in gold, are the hardest to find and have a low number in circulation. The chance of obtaining a Legendary card is:
0.8% in Booster Packs, although this percentage can be increased to 1.6% by using Legendary Potion charges.
In Loot Chests, the chance of obtaining a Legendary card varies from 0.2% in Bronze Chests to 3.2% in Champion Chests.
Epic: Epic cards have a purple frame and are the second highest rarity in Splinterlands. They appear with a 4.8% chance in both Booster Packs and Loot Chests.
- Rare: With a blue frame, Rare cards have a 24.8% chance of appearing in Booster Packs and Chests. Each Booster Pack ensures at least one Rare or higher card, giving them a higher frequency compared to Legendaries and Epics.
- Common: Common cards, with the standard frame, are the most frequent. In Booster Packs, they appear 69.6% of the time. Their chance of appearing in Chests varies slightly, being most common in lower-ranked Chests (70.2% in Bronze and 67.2% in Champion).
Combining Cards to Level Up (BCX)
Cards in Splinterlands can be upgraded by combining multiple copies, which increases their Base Card Experience (BCX). Each card starts with 1 BCX, which indicates that it has not been combined with other cards. When combining cards, one of them is “burned” and its BCX is transferred to the other, thus increasing the level.
- Combination Process: To combine cards, the player selects two identical cards. The card with the lowest BCX is removed and its experience is transferred to the card with the highest BCX. If both cards have the same BCX, the card that appears first in alphabetical order will retain the BCX.
Combination Example:
If a card “A” with 1 BCX and a card “B” also with 1 BCX are combined, when combining them, card “A” will have 2 BCX and card “B” will be eliminated.
In case of a card with 1 BCX combined with a card with 2 BCX, the card with the lowest BCX (in this case, the one with 1 BCX) will be eliminated, and the one with 2 BCX will reach 3 BCX.
Card Leveling:Each card requires a specific amount of BCX to reach higher levels and unlock additional abilities. Cards from older editions, such as Alpha, require less BCX due to their low availability on the market.
Leveling Example:
A Rebellion Edition Common card needs to be combined with up to 400 copies to reach its maximum level of 10.
A Legendary card from the same set would require only 11 copies to reach its maximum level of 4.
Combining cards is a permanent action and reduces the circulation of individual cards, as the total available cards decreases as they are combined.
Gold Foil Cards:Cards in Gold Foil are particularly rare and require less BCX to reach their maximum levels compared to cards in regular Foil. At the start, cards in Gold Foil are typically one level higher than other cards of the same rarity.
Gold Foil Example:
A Common Gold Foil card can start at Level 3 with just 1 BCX, while the regular version would start at Level 1 and require 400 BCX to reach the max level.
- In general, a Gold Foil card requires significantly less BCX (like 38 BCX) to reach its max level compared to the regular version of the card.
Card Stats and Abilities
As cards level up, they also increase their stats such as Attack, Health, Armor, and Speed. Some cards even unlock new abilities at certain levels. Players can see the breakdown of each level and its improvements through the stats tab on each card.
This process of combining, improving, and optimizing allows players to build a more competitive deck in Splinterlands, with cards tailored to specific strategies and tiers that maximize their abilities and effectiveness on the battlefield.
