Predicted to the T

Hello Battle Mages, I want to share an interesting battle I had with you guys today. Why I consider this battle most interesting is because of how well I predicted my opponent’s line up, and how prepared I was in battle. Let’s get into it.

Both my opponent and I completely disregarded the ruleset.

How I selected my line up

See, I noticed when I checked my opponents last 4 battles that he almost always uses the same style of line up

He selects Avina of the Wolf as his summoner, puts Grimbardum Fighter as tank, and throws a bunch of healers behind him to keep him alive. To be honest, since Avina of the Wolf is a summoner with dual abilities, I couldn’t really tell whether he was using her to give his monsters extra speed of to give one of them healing? I guess that was the one thing I couldn’t predict. So instead, I just assumed he was using its heal ability to fortify Grimbardum Fighter even more.

To my surprise, that wasn’t the case when our battle started. Something tells me this was a mistake, but I don’t know. Maybe my opponent was just a rookie? You know how rookie spl players often like to pick one strategy and use it no matter the battle or ruleset? I think that was what I was dealing with. But for some reason, I thought “Since they used this line up already so many times, maybe they’ll change a line up in this battle”. Lol, guess not.

Here’s how I countered his line up

I’m going to tell you about my tank first, before I tell you about my summoner, because my choice for my tank influenced what summoner I would use. I chose Immolation as my tank. It has a powerful magic attack, and has the mute ability. These two was a great combination considering I predicted that my opponent would use a lot of melee and ranged attacks.

Now, because I wasn’t sure how heavy he might attack my tank, I had to select a healer to sustain Immolation. So I put Goblin Psychic in the line up. I didn’t specifically say second position because I didn’t want to put him there. But after I finished selecting my line up, I just figured second position would be best for him.

Anyways, It was because I needed to include Goblin Psychic that I selected Brewmaster Abraxas the fire and earth summoner.

Knowing that the battle had a high mana cap, I knew my opponent would be tempted to use monsters with a mana cost at or above 10. Which is exactly why I rented Djinn Inferni – for his Giant Slayer ability.

I put Spirit Hoarder so that he could keep my last monster alive. I’m sure you were thinking I would say I wanted him to protect Djinn Inferni or even Goblin Psychic, but truth is, I knew that if by some mistake, my opponent had an opportunity monster on his line up, I would be totally fucked. Funny how one monster could’ve changed the entire game for him. Pity it didn’t go that way. Lol

Now for my last monster, Disintegrator. I’m sure you have a fair guess why I chose him. My opponent liked using melee monsters from my analysis, so I chose Disintegrator to reduce their attack power, so that even if Psychic Goblin was killed early, Immolation would still hold out for a bit. I also strategically placed him at the back of the line up in anticipation that my opponent my want to sneak on me. Even though disintegrator was vital to my line up, I considered him disposable, so I didn’t mind. Although, I also made provisions to keep him alive as long as I could by throwing in Spirit Hoarder just in case.

If you’re guessing why I skipped Blackmoor Nymph in my line up analysis, it’s because I didn’t really have any use for her. I put her in there because I realized my mana cost was below the cap, and since she had magic attack, I figured I’d choose her. Her attacks will definitely hit.
