The Odds One Slugfest Champion, Pelacor Mercenaries

Hello There

As usual, on every weekend I am publishing my Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets challenge entry. For you who are new on these, this is a Splinterlands players regular event where we share our battle with certain theme. What theme do we have now? It is Odds Ones Out.

Odds Ones Out is a ruleset that only permit units with odd mana costs to be selected into battlefield. It means you won't see any units with even mana costs. During this ruleset, usually I prefer to pick certain element, however today battle will be different.

I am picking a low mana cap battle, this would change the mechanics and I like small mana cap because you don't need fancy expensive cards, because most of the time being efficient or being creatively playing out of the box matter the most here.

Ok let's check my battle below

THE BATTLE

It might not be the best match up but I think this battle was good enough. A battle from Silver League Modern Format with these ruleset:

12 Mana cap, seriously that's the lowest mana available. It's a headache if you really wanted to make a good line up. The reason was simple, Earth and Life were good on even mana units. So we had a very limited selection here, and this could be a battle of which had worse line up.

by happened both of us came with same tactic, one unit for slugfest, and a unit behind just for filler. I came with Pelacor Mercenary, he came with Imperial kight. So let's see how this went

image.png

  • The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents. Speed had became their issue here, my team was a lot faster... I mean my single unit, pelacor Mercenary was faster and stronger
  • My opponent had 3 melee damage
  • My team had 3 melee damage too
  • Because this was a slugfest contest between two units, let made this fast forward

image.png

  • We jumped to round 4 here. My pelacor mercenary led the slugfest, their Imperial Knight seemed heavily battered.

  • Now we jumped onto Round 8, and this was the last round for their Imperial Knight. My Pelacor Mercenary killed him first before he healed. No need to see what that Gargoyle Scrapper would do. Good Game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

Ok, that was a simple battle but was not an easy one. From this battle, we could take 2 main points we can learn from

1. Healing Need Good Max Health Point.

Both of our units, Pelacor Mercenary and Imperial Knight had healing abilities and both hit at 3 melee damage. Overall my pelacor mercenary did better by evading some of Imperial Knight attacks. However the one that decided this match was Imperial Knight health point.

My pelacor mercenary healed 3 health per round, so it could negate Imperial Knight damage. Their imperial knight healed only 2 health, and he suffered an accumulation of 1 damage per round because my Pelacor Mercenary delivered 3 damager per round.

In a close battle, a health point could made a big impact. A health point of 8 vs 9 with healing builds a difference, same as health point of 11 vs 12 here.

2. If You have Rebellion Edition, Level Gap Could Be Compensated.

Initially I did not think about choosing this battle as my Battle Mage Secret because in a glance it looked like a bullying. I came with level 8 Pelacor Mercenary, which might be too much for an Imperial Knight. However... If he had a Rebellion card, things could be different.

image.png

Let say he put Meriput Magician as their tank, with a shield ability, my Pelacor Mercenary could only damage her 2 point. So she will be keep healed all the time and we had a stale mate on the main tank position.

image.png

With Stitch Leech as the backline, they could deliver 4 damage per round. Don't Worry, Stitch leech would not die from hitting Mycelic Morphoid thorn.

Anyway this is just a simulation on how much you could do with an option of Rebellion card. if you think it's just a make up excuse, ok I give another simulation here.

Let say you have Avina of the Wolf with lower level, it is a big different there. You only need Meriput Magician as sole unit, she will be healed 2x2 health point, wait till fatigue comes and you will win, or it might be draw by a shear bad luck.

anyway, whatever it is, Rebellion could make a different here.

Ok That's all for my battle mage secret post today, see you guys again on Splinterlands battlefields!!

Pelacor Mercenary when it first came out wasn't one of my favorite cards. Now that I have a maxed out copy it has become one of favorites. The flying is huge plus and the self heal. He is particularly nasty with a Llama.

That was a great match, those twelve mana caps are tough especially with only commons...
