Trust Your Commons and Rares, They Are The Foundation of Your Deck

Greetings, Everyone

I hope you all are having a great day. I am sharing one of my oldest tip, the one that I have hold from beginning until now and I believe this is one of the best tips I can share to new Splinterlands player.

This is a simple tip: BELIEVE MORE ON YOUR COMMON AND RARE

This is similar to a Rise of The Commoners ruleset, which we are only allowed to use Common and Rare only.

If playing with commons and rares are very essential, people should already notice this from beginning and this should be not a good tip anymore... However the fact is not like that, here some issues that most Splinterlands players have experienced before:

  1. Because Common and Rare are available for free (of course with rewards negated for the ghost card), many new players think that they should get Epic and Legend as soon as possible, because those are the "paid" one. Well that is not wrong but it's definitely misleading. Common and Rare can be played with ghost card because we want new players able to experience playing with them without having to buy them first.
  2. Euphoria after buying or getting a Super Strong card. Maybe Quora Towershead, or some Legendary from opening packs. Some people forget about the basic and they get fixated with trying to develop a new line up that support their new beloved card.
  3. Envy or maybe Awe seeing certain units can perform ridiculously. Some cards are meant to be excessive strong, however they can be countered easily using some meta. ok let me get you some example here

Here is the example of my Quora Towershead battle. She is alone and she is more than enough to sweep off all her opponents. However as time progress, many player learn how to counter this stupid one lady team show. Here what happens if I spam Quora Towershead too often:

See the battle above, my team was easily crumbled after they learn how to counter fighting a Quora Towershead with a bunch of small units.

Unfortunately new players might not gain enough experience to understand this more. That's why I prefer to say this to all new Splinterlands players out there, believe more on your commons and rares

LETS WALK THE TALK HERE

Ok I will walk my talk here, I will show you another battle but this time I am using @blackkrrsantan one of a scholarship account borrowed to me. I do not like spending big on Game, so I lend this account from Bulldog1205.

I think this is a good example of some people who I address as lacking of trust or disbelieve in their commons and rares. First my opponent came with 2 Legendary units and 2 epic units. How many epic and Legend did I bring? NONE

image.png

Nobody dares to say USUT is weak. Well he is far from the strongest however overall he is a badass and a very strong unit we could get. I like USUT very much however I realize that USUT is easily countered due to his slow speed and weak magic attack.

But still In general, He is a force to reckon.

Uraeus is one of the strongest small mana units, due to his Poison and Sneak ability. Many cases this card brought a difference in the battle. Always a great option to have him, especially if the Mana Cap is not big enough to house in some big cards you want to have in your line up.

Ok overall I believe my opponent loves USUT some much and he wants USUT in his team. Guess what happens?

image.png

My team only needed 3 rounds to tear their team apart, killing Cursed Windeku in one round and beating down USUT in the second round. Those two tanks were very strong, looked at my line up, my Cursed Windeku was still there.

But still those two defeated by a mere Common and Rare units in my team.

image.png

Rather than USUT, my Shadow Snitch performed a lot better. He delivered Affliction, a status ailment that stopped USUT self healing in that battle. That's how their USUT died easily.

image.png

Rather than URAEUS who performed well killing a couple of my backline unit, this unit, SOUL STRANGER held the key of my team victory. Every round he landed a massive 4 range damage. This made my team easily shoved out Cursed Windeku and USUT. Too bad Uraeus took him down later, else my team could win more faster.

Through this battle, I hope you guys get my point here, My common and rare performing better than their Epic and Legend... It is not because I am smart or my opponent dumb. It is more about understanding the basic in Splinterlands and back to the core message I am conveying in this post, Believe more on your commons and rares. Do not get fixated with Legendaries or Some big cards!!

Thanks for coming and have a fun in Splinterlands Battles!!!

In my experience commons and rares become even more valuable as they level up, because they have a lot of levels, everyone coming with a little bonus which makes the card increasingly stronger.

yes they are. They are actually the core of each sets, somehow people are easily distracted by powerful Legends and Epics and tend to forget the basic.

Imho is because at lower levels Epic and Legendary cards already come packed with more abilities, so they look way more appealing for a newcomer than the average common or rare.

I agree with this, that's why even in this current reward card I prioritize maximizing them first.
