Brief history of the medusa:
Medusa was one of the three Gorgons, mythological creatures with snake-like hair and the ability to turn those who looked at them into stone. Unlike her sisters, Stheno and Euryale, Medusa was mortal. The story of Medusa is linked to her encounter with the hero Perseus.
According to mythology, Medusa was punished by the goddess Athena because of her pride and beauty. She transformed her into a fearsome being, with snake hair and a deadly look. Her curse was so powerful that anyone who looked directly at her was petrified.
Perseus, in his quest to defeat Medusa, received help from the gods, including a polished bronze reflective shield from Athena and winged sandals from Hermes. Perseus managed to approach Medusa without looking directly at her, and using the reflection in her shield, he cut off the Gorgon's head. From her severed neck emerged the legendary winged horse Pegasus.
