Splinterlands - Thanalorian Blade - Card Review

avatar

Greetings, fellow Summoners! It’s your boy, Eustace-Kidd, back again with another thrilling Splinterlands card review. Today’s spotlight shines on Thanalorian Blade, a powerful Epic Earth unit that I recently pulled from an Epic Draw. This card has some interesting potential, so let's break down its stats and abilities to see how best to use it in battle!

Thanalorian Blade

Card Overview

Stats

  • Unit Type: Earth
  • Rarity: Epic
  • Mana Cost: 6
  • Attack Type: Melee
  • Stats at Max Level (Level 6):
    • 4 Melee Attack
    • 3 Speed
    • 1 Armor
    • 6 Health

Abilities:

  • Opportunity: This ability allows Thanalorian Blade to attack the enemy unit with the lowest health, no matter where it’s positioned on the battlefield. This ensures that it targets the most vulnerable units and keeps the pressure on your opponent’s weaker cards.

  • Execute: A unique and highly dangerous ability. If Thanalorian Blade attacks a unit and leaves it with 2 or less health, it can immediately attack again, dealing another blow to finish off the weakened target. This can be a game-changing skill when facing teams that rely on low-health but high-impact units.

  • Trample: When Thanalorian Blade kills a target, it can charge forward and strike another enemy in line. This ability can chain multiple attacks in a single turn, especially when facing weaker enemy cards, making it deadly against tightly packed formations.

  • Lookout: Thanalorian Blade gives your team an advantage by reducing the damage dealt to adjacent allies by enemies using the Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity abilities. It's like having a sentry in the backline, offering a defense against stalkers who try to target your vulnerable units from the shadows.

Best Strategies for Thanalorian Blade

Thanalorian Blade shines when it can leverage its Opportunity and Trample abilities. These abilities allow it to jump into action and continuously hammer low-health targets, weakening the enemy's backline quickly. Pair it with cards that can protect it and support its offensive role, like those with Taunt or Protect, which will keep the enemy focused away from your Blade as it chips away at their weaker units.

Using Thanalorian Blade in lineups where there are squishy backline attackers is also a great tactic. It can exploit enemy formations with Opportunity, and Execute ensures it finishes off any low-health targets with relentless aggression.

Look for cards that can heal or repair Thanalorian Blade so that it can stay in the battle longer. The unit’s 6 health and 1 armor are good but not invincible, so maintaining its durability is key.

Potential Weaknesses

While Thanalorian Blade packs a punch, its armor and health are relatively modest for an Epic card. Beware of magic-heavy lineups or units with high burst damage that can quickly take it down. Units with Thorns or Magic Reflect can also be troublesome for Thanalorian Blade, as its melee attacks will make it susceptible to counter-damage.

Additionally, the card’s Trample ability relies on successful kills to trigger multiple attacks, meaning it may underperform if your opponent has heavily armored or high-health units.

Recommended Lineups

Thanalorian Blade thrives in offensive lineups that focus on taking out vulnerable backline units. Pair it with summoners that boost its attack damage or speed, such as summoners that grant Inspire or Speed. This ensures it strikes first and hits harder.

Consider pairing it with Earth cards that offer healing (Triage) or repair (Protect) to extend its life on the battlefield. Cards with Taunt also synergize well by distracting enemy fire while Thanalorian Blade wreaks havoc.

Look for supportive cards that can offer buffs or debuffs like Weaken or Demoralize to soften up enemy defenses, allowing Thanalorian Blade to activate Execute and finish off units efficiently.

Final Thoughts

Thanalorian Blade is a formidable force in any Earth-based lineup. Its combination of Opportunity and Trample make it a relentless attacker, capable of decimating the enemy’s weaker units. With careful positioning and support, this card can be a game-changer, delivering lethal strikes and creating chaos in your opponent’s ranks.

Be sure to look out for it in your next Epic draw—it just might be the card that tips the balance in your favor!

Good luck, and see you on the battlefield!
