Splinterlands - Battle Mage Secrets - Lost Magic Edition!
A new week means always a new battle to share! In this week’s Secret Challenge we are facing the opportunity of increasing our skills without the magic attackers. This one in particular is very different from other battles because the magic units are so powerful in this game. Yes, there is always a good counter against everything in this game, but if one part is being excluded due to a Ruleset, we need to take advantage of that. This is what we are going to explore in this specific post today! We will talk about the ruleset in general, look at potential strategies and what cards could benefit us here and last but not least look at two battles that we were able to decide into our favor! With that out of the way, let’s get started!
Lost Magic Ruleset
Let’s talk about the ruleset here for a minute. As mentioned in the introduction, this ruleset is not allowing us to use any kind of magic unit. This means also that units with double attacking styles are not being able to be used if they have a portion of magic in them. This obviously opens up the door for other cards while making others obsolete. For example, it does not make sense to use a summoner who is buffing magic attacks like the earth summoner Obsidian or nerfing the opposite Magic units like the death Summoner Thaddius. This is why we need to talk about strategy here.
Strategy & Cards!
So how exactly are we going about this specific ruleset? I think it makes sense to point out why Magic attackers are so great: They can deal damage through armor! This means that having units with a lot of armor will not benefit us. Well, now that we can not use magic attackers, it opens up the extreme beneficial strategy of having units with tons of armor, as well as having units that can repair this armor! This brings us already to the first cards that I really like using in these kind of scenarios. With Swamp Spitter and Scavo Hireling we have two units that we can utilize to our advantage. You see armor ahs the great advantage of serving as a one attack buffer. It is especially effective when the other opponent is not really attack heavy or does not have a lot of units he is attacking with. Why? Because it makes his attacks to go nowhere. With this being said, while Scavo can not attack himself, the Swamp Spitter can which makes him even more of an asset in this kind of scenario.
Next up, we need to talk about our tank. You will see in the next section that we will have two battles to show. Both battles follow a very similar strategy with two different Splinters. The cool part about it is, that we are having a very similar tank type in both elements. While water has the Diemonshark with 6 armor and 7 health, the Fire Element has the Forgotten One with 4 armor and 8 health. Both have a good amount of attack and are costing 8 and 9 mana. Both are excellent tanks in this occasion and will do their job excellently until they fall. This should give us enough time to execute our actual plan.
What is our actual plan you might ask? Well, it is very easy explained. While we are trying to protect out units with our regenerative tank, we are taking out the smaller units on the other side. With the Opportunity ability we have enough force to actually deal some good amount of damage and we have perfect cards for doing this in the Frie and Water Splinter. With Kulu Mastermind, we actually have one of the best Opportunity cards in the game and Mordeus is definitely not far away from dealing some great damage with his 6 buffed attack! On top of that there is always the possibility to spice our attacking force up with some Sneak Action from Tenyii Striker.
Example Battles
With our brief strategy outlined, let’s jump straight into the actual battles. While the first one was more of a regenerative master plan, the second one was more difficult due to the summoner selection of our opponent. The first opponent was not able to deal with our armor restore tactic, and we also only needed to restore the health of our shark once. It was a total wipe out without any casualties and an execution of a perfect strategy plan. As mentioned before, the second opponent was on the tougher side. Due to his Thorns ability on every unit, we were getting a good amount of damage in. Fortunately for us, his units themselves were not all attacking which made the amount of actual damage less again. In the end we were able to defeat this opponent with the amount of damage we were able to deal on average!
