Lemell Refugee | Splinterlands Weekly Contest

Hello my dear Hivers, today is a day of celebration, a day of jubilation! If we were in Argentina, it would be a day for celebration at the Obelisk, because after a looong time, I've finally managed to submit my entry for the weekly Splinterlands contest mid-week, and not on Saturday just minutes before it closes, as I usually do.

This time around, I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to paint because I've been wanting to depict Lemell Refugee for quite some time now. But, true to my style, I've depicted him in an exaggerated pose, inspired by one of Chun-Li's typical stances from Street Fighter, where she often has one leg raised. However, it's always a bit tricky around the crotch area, but I decided to take the risk and see how Lemell would look in this position, holding his spear high.

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

Today, I really dedicated time to the sketch, especially focusing on outlining the character. I chose one of Chun-Li's typical fighting poses, and I felt that the rear might look a bit odd, so I carefully traced each line of the outline.

-Step 2:

Next, I applied the base colors using the pen tool, and immediately began shading the skin, using cooler tones to blend with the surroundings.

-Step 3:

But to have better colors in Lemell, I worked on the background early, as I always leave it for last minute. I found a great image for reference, which blended the cool blue tones with the intensity of red very well, and this would make the character stand out a lot.

-Step 4:

Thanks to having a detailed outline, I was able to quickly paint the armor ornaments. In this, I tried to respect the different color changes in each piece and added a bit of texture to make these metal pieces more interesting.

-Step 5:

I felt Lemell's head was a bit small, so I resized and transformed it slightly using the liquify tool. I also added glows everywhere using the "overlay" blending mode and tried to make the magic manifest outside her spear by making the runes glow in the air beneath it. And to keep up with tradition, I added a motion blur to those runes.

Hahaha, quite the celebration!

This isn't a card I use that often honestly, and I actually never realized it was a female character, all this time I thought it was a male character because I never actually looked at it properly.

Great work!
