AI Used By scientists To Win Noble Prize

Three scientists have gotten a Nobel prize this year for an innovation that will bring more solutions, better drugs and healthcare in our future

What makes me so interested in this particular scientific breakthrough is how the scientists used AI for it. AI is getting more popular than Corona Virus back in 2020. We see AI in content creation with all these AI animated videos and images on YouTube and TikTok, we see AI in gaming, Art and now medical science.

The scientists who made this brilliant breakthrough were David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper. What they did was to use artificial intelligence to understand proteins in our bodies better than ever before.

We already know how important proteins are for life. They're essentially the building blocks of our own bodies. That's why when you want your kid to grow or an athlete wants to get bigger, they go for proteins. But the thing for a long time was that proteins had a very their complex structure making it harder for scientists to understand.

With an AI model called AlphaFold, researchers were now able to predict how proteins fold based on their amino acid sequences. This particular AI tool has made protein structure information accessible to millions of scientists. For me, it's not just the excitement of the breakthrough but imagining how many more things we can do with even more advanced AI models. AI speeds up research in many areas, from medicine to biology.
