Splinterlands: Experimenting With The New Season.


It is the end of another splinterlands season, and it marks the end of an era. The end of playing freely in the wild format, unless you are always playing in modern mode. It was a disappointment for me as a player. I earned approximately 46k glints two seasons ago and a disappointing 39.6k glint this time. I did not think I lost many games, but my glint haul for the season shows otherwise.

Unfortunately for me, splinterlands was doing an update when I decided to spend the Glints I got and unfortunately I bought 6 epic draws rather the 3 I initially wanted to buy. It was a waste of Glint because I did not really need that many epic cards.




My focus was on rare and common draws. Summoners and common cards are what I need the most, and overspending on epics was a disaster.

However, I did obtain a useful legendary card, Aves Sturgis, and was finally able to progress to level 2. I use this card frequently because of the weapon training ability, and it now has the divine shield ability. It may not be the most impactful ability, but it can be extremely useful in battle.



I was also able to get a Gladius pack. Nothing useful, but it may be relevant when playing in the Guild. Overall, I have some common cards, the majority of which are at levels 7, 8, and 9. They are already in good positions.

A "Wild Pass" Experimentation

When the season ended. I was not sure if I was going to keep playing, so I went shopping for the cards I wanted. The new splinterlands change is no longer minor; it is a significant change that requires careful consideration. One might argue that paying $1 for a pass to play the game is not much money, but the fact that it is a subscription rather than a one-time purchase makes it even more serious.

The SPS requirements to play have been increased, which means that players will receive less SPS as well as glint. There is now speculation that people in the modern era will be able to migrate to the wild because bots will no longer exist. However, I believe that modern players would not prefer this. Reduced SPS earnings, fewer glints, and the need to pay to play each season.

Switching to modern is a way for a regular wild player to avoid the penalty, but they may have to sell their wild deck in order to buy a modern-playable deck, and the money may not be enough. It is a difficult decision, and I will not say much until I have tested the changes to see how they work out.

The idea is that the fewer bots there are, the more SPS regular players can earn; however, if the SPS requirements are increased, more human players may earn less SPS, which is much worse for human players.



To test this theory, I decided to purchase a wild pass this season.

On average, I would earn about 0.8 SPS per battle and about 220 glints. I have over 11k staked SPS and an incoming delegation of 16k as well. I want to see how these changes play out, if the bots have truly stopped playing, and if their absence means more SPS and Glint rewards for the SPS staked I already have.

It is going to be an interesting experiment, and the results will determine my next steps. Overall, last two season's Glint and SPS earnings were higher.

This is great, I never knew you engage in this game, wow.
This season your glints went down a bit but one thing I know you for is planning. You've already made plans and implemented them. I hope it pays out my boss.

The Gladiator are very relevant when you got the summoners letting you to play the cards in the normal battle. There are some overpowered cards in there.

I haven't been getting much of the gladiators though. I guess it's because of my merit reward

you can always use 2000 glint for a pack every season, they add up
and a Quora or other legendary are game changers.

I'm looking forward to your report on how the season goes, I imagine the SPS reward pool might be higher initially with many less bots playing. However, SPS has fallen quite a bit, so not sure the final numbers.

I'm also looking forward. I've put in some battles this season and it seems some modern players actually migrated. The SPS seems to have remained the same, but the glints have significantly reduced, I'm guessing the glint reduction is because of the SPS requirements that's now been upped.

It's going to be interesting for sure. I don't do well in modern because I don't have enough rebellion cards. I gambled with a wild pass for this season, but not sure if I'll continue. It's expensive and I'm not entirely sure the rewards will come anywhere close to the investment. I think this season will be a big decider for many players, continue vs only play in guild battles...

You might get the same amount of SPS as before, but the glint earned is very poor. I have tested it for about 7 to 8 games (I gambled with a wild pass too).

Overall, real players are inevitably going to still suffer. Splinterlands Inc is the overall winner here.

I think it depends, but I just wonder about the win rate for modern players. My deck is probably only able to get like Silver in modern but it was possible to get Champion before the changes. So in that type of way, it was more profitable in SPS and glint to do Wild over modern. I just don't think it will solve the bot issue and I don't want to consider extra subscription services at this time.

The price of SPS in the market may start an uptrend if the bot farming and dump SPS are dry.
