Why I Continue to Support Splinterlands and the Team

A few days ago I made a post described how I was worried that Splinterlands as an echosystem was losing sight of what's important. (HERE)

Frankly I was blown away by the quality of discussion that ensued. Many people are passionate about the game and share my concerns. Some were less concerned with the game play aspects, and that's fine too. If you haven't read through all of the thoughtful comments and replies, I encourage you to do so and join the conversation. I also hope the team has gone through these conversations as well. Though I can be both cynical and critical, my expectations for the future are still positive. It's just my nature. I'm not a cheering section guy. I'm a pouring over the playbook kind of guy.

Related to the subject of this post, I received a response to an idea I had about tying ECR to Staked SPS, and Bronko offered some fair critisim.

I then responded by contrasting the incentives for playing the game, be them fun or financial. And how thus far marketing to crypto people was creating a blind spot on the game play side.

Weird Beard's response addressed my concerns perfectly.

After that we more or less agreed that the community needs to hold the team accountable for delivering in these areas.

While Weird Beard is just a single representative of a larger team, I've always got the impression that the team is willing to listen to the community when it comes to most things. So much so that when a decision is made without community involvement, it can be infuriating. That being said, this is still the most I have ever seen a software company engage with their community of users, so it's important that we don't lose sight of that. Many features have been implemented as a direct result of community consultation. I hope that the entire team feels this way, and sees the importance of the game (and game play) itself as in important funnel to get new people interested in the investing side of the equation. With respect to my last post, perhaps losing focus rather than losing sight was a better turn of phrase. In any case, I'm still excited for the future, but expect me to continue to use my megaphone from the peanut gallery.

I myself am caught being overly critical sometimes and some in the past have often mistaken my positions as a direct attack on the team or on other players with opposing views. I want to echo your sentiment. People who are passionate about this game can often appear overly critical but their intentions are more often than not genuine. Weird Beard get's it along with the other Devs and it's great to see in the AMA's when they respond compassionately to the plight and struggles of the community. The success of this game is in the hands of all of us, not just the Devs and that it's okay to disagree or have strong sentiments on both sides of the fence. We need that to find balance and create solutions and when there is a dicrepency in fairness to one side or the other and resolve it in a way that is beneficial. It doesn't mean people being critical of Dev's or voted decisions are against the Dev's or the community, in fact it's quite the opposite. Accountability and 'keeping people honest' in the spirit of fairness and equal opportunity is and should always be at the forefront of a decentralised democracy and economy as in the case with p2e gaming and pushing the game to new heights. If no one challenges an idea, or raises issues then we end up with a bunch of yes people and a game direction that may end up being manipulated by a few and then the game dies and we all lose.

P.S Another great post. Keep em coming, I am always scrolling past peoples daily rewards posts and giveaways in search of something with a little more meat and you've delivered again. :)

Agreed, if your intentions are anything but that, you don't value your own time.

Agreed. I could be completely wrong with my argument, but the process can cause the other side to strengthen theirs or see things in a different light.

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the discussion and they are less vapid than most! :)

It is good that the discussion took an interesting path and that optimism is maintained, despite the necessary constructive criticism to improve.
