With a decent mana cap, this one had to be a Dragon battle. The added addition of the Blast and Opportunity rulesets meant that I wanted some speed in my team as well. I also decided to bring Death along, there were two cards in particular I had in mind that would work really well with my Dragon team.
Battle Lineup
First of all the summoner had to be Quix the Devious, I wanted to play Dragon and I wanted to deny the opponent some speed to take full advantage of that Blast ruleset, so Quix the Devious with his -1 to speed was a no brainer.
When you use the Dragon element you get to choose another one as well. I could pick Life or Death. I wanted Death and my first in line was going to be a level six Pelacor Deceiver with Flying and Backfire. I was hoping this one would be tough to hit and send some damage back their way, it didn't let me down!
Now for my first Dragon, a level one Diamond Dragon. My main reason for wanting this Dragon was the extra -1 to speed, I really wanted to get all the first hits in and take full advantage of Blast. It's a solid monster as well with high armour which is also always good in Blast matches.
My level two Lira the Dark was next on the list. With her ridiculously high speed and Snare to catch any opposing Flying creatures, making them easier to hit, she was an important part of my strategy. Her Opportunity ability was kind of irrelevant however, as that was also part of the ruleset, but we can't have it all!
I already mentioned how important Speed was to me in this match, so I had to bring along my level five Supply Runner. His Swiftness ability was going to further boost my team's overall speed by +1.
Time for my second Dragon. The mana cap was high enough so who wouldn't bring their level three Chaos Dragon along?! It has Flying, Blast (which we've already got), Scattershot and Blind. I was hoping that Scattershot was going to decimate the central ranks of my enemy here together with Blast. Then Blindness will help increase my chances of evading, great for my Deceiver in the number one spot. Plus this monster is brutal and everyone loves to show it off when they can!
And last, but by no means least, we have my level three Magi Necrosi. Now Camouflage isn't so effective in a Blast ruleset match, so I was a little worried that the Magi might get taken out prematurely here. I was hoping to at least get one hit in and taking advantage of the magic snipe would potentially be very effective using that Blast ruleset.
Not only did this lineup get me an undisputed win, but I didn't even take a single point of damage... NOT ONE single point of damage! My high speed and speed debuffs on the enemy team were incredibly effective and together with my high damage and the Blast ruleset, the opposing team was torn apart in short order. We made it into round two...just, and the opposing team got in three attacks against me and all three were dodged, with my Deceiver sending that damage back at the opponent. I think this might be the first match that I've never taken a single point of damage!
He's deadly, he's quick, he'll see you in the pit. Quix the Devious! Quix the Devious!
He's deadly, he's grand, he'll fight you on the sand! Quix, Quix, Quix... Quix, Quix, Quix!
