The most recent Splinterlands update brings 1-click rentals to the game. This makes it much easier for players to rent cards directly on the splinterlands site, as previously this was extremely time-consuming, and honestly just not viable considering there were much easier options available on third party sites like PeakMonsters.

In this post I will explore the 1-click rental feature, and provide my thoughts on it.

1-Click rental usage

We find the one-click rentals by going to the top menu - Market:

Then the sub-menu Set Rentals:

From here we have three options. We can CREATE (build your rental set), RENT (rent an existing set) or MANAGE (edit sets and manage currently rented sets).

By default there is only the Chaos Legion Starter set available:

When I click Rent on that set, I get the following page, which allows me to select which currency I would like to pay with, and a list of available sets to rent from this template:

I can also view the cards included in the set to fully see what is included:

Finally, when I press Rent, I get the following popup showing the cost and duration. If I rent it now, it goes through the next season, and will cost me 4k DEC.

So functionally, this looks pretty good. Its simple to rent, but ridiculously expensive at the moment. For reference, the cost to rent this with PeakMonsters deck rental is 13 dec/day, or just 300 dec for the 22 days that the Splinterland option gives us. The downside to PeakMonsters rentals for this long is that it is likely that some of the card rentals might be cancelled, as they are only locked for rental for 48 hours. It also takes slightly longer to rent, and you have to have your PeakMonsters account properly set up to use the service.

Creating a deck

Pressing the Create button brings up a page to select which template you want to use. Unfortunately, it does not look like it is possible to create your own templates (yet?). Selecting the Chaos Legion Starter deck brings up a page like this, where you can either use the Autofill function, or press each card type individually and select which unique card you want it to use.

This also looks quite simple to use, and there are some settings you can explore for the AutoFill function aswell.
I don't have enough cards available to create the deck, so I was not able to explore further, but I assume that the next page will involve setting the price for the set.

Final Thoughts:

The 1-click rental system looks easy to navigate and quick to use. For now, it is not fleshed out to the extent that it is really particularly useful since we only have one set template available. Once that gets expanded, I can see some use for it. However, it has strong competition from third-party sites. Seasoned Splinterlands players will likely opt for those other options because they are likely going to result in cheaper rentals.

The other sites have auto-rental features that will feel like renting a card for longer (although you dont have a guaranteed rental unless you allow it to spend a bit). They also have a much wider selection of decks, and it is easy to build your own preferred rental set that you can match to whatever cards you own yourself. At PeakMonsters this can look something like this:

For inexperienced players, the 1-click rentals directly on the Splinterlands site will be useful. Hopefully, there will be enough decks available for rent at a reasonable price, so that this new functionality can be the default way to try out Splinterlands.
