The 2024 Road to Hive Fest

When I found out this year's Hivefest was to be held in Split in Croatia I immediately checked the flights from my local airport. Yep!!! We have direct flights to both Split and Dubrovnik 👍👍👍 . I've never been to Croatia before and I love going to new countries so I can add more pins to my Pinmapple Worldmappin map.

At the back of my mind I guess I always knew I'd be going this year. It would be my third Fest. The first one was SF4 Bangkok in 2019, I met so many of my friends for the first time and had an absolute cracker time. Sadly a lot of those from Bangkok aren't active anymore. My second one was HF7 in 2022 in Amsterdam, the first one post covid and the first Hivefest making it especially special. I think the turnout was less than Bangkok but I actually felt more at ease there.

Bangkok 1999 on the left and Amsterdam 2022 above. These aren't my photo, sorry can't remember the source, it was from the photographers present

I'm not sure what the turnout will be this year. Last year seemed quite low in Mexico, hopefully this year will be better. I wallet snoop the HF account every now and then to see who's paid for a ticket. So far it's good to see quite a few familiar names, some old friends and other new ones whom I look forward to meet for the first time. Plus the announced speakers, looks like it will be a nice turnout. Hopefully there will be more people coming still.

A couple of days ago, I bought my ticket, I'm officially going to HiveFest 9 in Split! And this year I'll be going with my husband. In previous years, he flies out to join me afterward and then we go on holiday to some place else. This year we're flying to Split together. The idea was he could hang around Split by himself while I go to HiveFest. Then @zirochka said she was going to HiveFest with her family, a much well needed and deserved holiday after all they've had to endure these couple of years, I have to say. I thought that's a brilliant idea - going with your family.

My HiveFest expenses are always paid out from my Hive earnings so the extra ticket for my husband is a way of me contributing back into Hive, a circular economy if you like. He probably won't be interested in the talks (sorry speakers) but HiveFest is more than the presentations as we all know. It's all about getting to know people, whether you're active on the chain or not. Plus we get the meals and all the other events like the boat trip and the rally car included. And I hear @detlev always does a good pub crawl during HiveFest, not sure if there will be one this year, if so hubs probably won't need much persuasion.

After HiveFest, we'll be staying behind in Split for a couple more days, then we're going to Dubrovnik before we head home.

#RoadtoHiveFest counting down T-14 days. See you all soon!!!

Sounds like it's going to be an awesome time. We just started school here, so there is little chance I would be able to pull myself away from all of the tech issues that need to be taken care of this time of year. Maybe one day when I am retired I will be able to make it to a Hivefest. Pretty awesome that they are closing in on a decade though.

the timing is tricky for schools, luckily there's th streaming (I assume) so you can catch up with the sessions.

HF10!! Yeah, that sounds pretty amazing for next year. Who would have thought the community would have lasted this long

Yes, I will probably try to catch some of the streams if I can. I might have an issue with the time zone thing, but I can always try after the fact.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
One way to onboard more people to Hive is to bring the family!

It will be good to see you again there. I can see that a few people bought tickets via that wallet and I suspect some will have done it by other means. There are all the speakers that have been announced too, so I would hope there will be a fair few. It would be great to get back to the numbers we had in Lisbon and Krakow. I know there will be some first-timers I want to meet.

It's good that different people have taken on organising these events (decentralised!). We really need events on every continent so that everyone has a chance to meet more Hivers. I think that is already happening to some extent even if they are smaller scale. It all counts.

I just hope the turnout makes it worthwhile for the organisers to keep on hosting the HF. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to do these things but you can never guarantee the turnout, sometimes till the last minute.

Me too. We have to be realistic about the size of the active community, but there are a lot around Europe. I'd encourage people to come along and it's always fun.

Most important people will be in Split! That's for sure! 😃

Luckily, this time I will not be alone on the stage... :)

How about you? This time you will be only a spectator, or you plan some surprise? 🙂

Yeah, we are enjoying the times where he's feeling okay, which is usually when the meds are working well. If not he's asleep or in a lot of pain.

Sounds great! I hope you have a great time there. My posts don't earn nearly enough to cover tickets for me to go, nor for the lost days of work, so I'll enjoy from afar, like I have the last few. One of these days I'll be able to go! Anyway, hope it goes great.

I can imagine it can be difficult when you have family and work, plus it's half way around the world for you. Maybe HF will return to Asia again sometime and you can join. It's really worth going!

Hive Fest and Croatia, that's going to be such a treat!
I'd looove to get to Hive Fest sometime, but will definitely try to meet up with some of our Dutch or German Hivers next time I visit my son. They've bought a house in Zevenaar, not far from the Germany border.
Enjoy the trip with your hubs🤗

I know there are quite a few of you in South Africa, are there many in Durban to organize a meetup?

There are a couple here, in Joburg (an hour's flight) and more Hivers in Cape Town, just over 2 hours flight from Durban.
We should take a look at that.

Amazing! You will love Croatia, I've been to Dubrovnik twice, once in 1998 and again around 2007 and it is so beautiful and back then not too touristy. I have not been to Split, but I'm sure it's equally beautiful and the locals are so friendly and nice. You'll have a blast.

Cool that hubs is going too and that @detlev will be on hand to 'babysit' him 🍺 🍻 🍺 😀

I'll get to a Hivefest some time, but not until kids are much older I'd say. Enjoy anyway.

You'll love it. I've been in Croatia for the first time before flying to Amsterdam's Hivefest, and it's an awesome country. I would love to be there this year too... but will have to compensate on a future hivefest. Have tons of fun! !BEER
