You've already seen what's new in Splinterlands in its new crazy updates
The new update brings a festive feel to Splinterlands with the Halloween theme temporarily taking over the game's art. It also includes a number of significant gameplay improvements, bug fixes, and updates that enhance the user experience. The main changes and additions are detailed below.
Gameplay Updates
New rule sets:
Five new rule sets have been added that increase the variety and complexity of battles, making strategies more dynamic:
Heavy Metal: Only units with armor can be summoned, prioritizing the toughest creatures.
Might Makes Right: Only allows summoning units with 3 or more power in ranged, magic, or melee attacks, favoring more powerful creatures.
Need for Speed: Only units with 3 or more speed can be summoned, putting emphasis on the fastest creatures in the game.
Deflection Field: All units gain the Reflection Shield ability, protecting themselves from damage from reflection abilities.
Beefcakes: Only allows units with 5 or more health to be summoned, highlighting the sturdiest and most durable creatures.
Skill and mechanics adjustments:
Several key adjustments have been made to improve the behavior of certain skills in combat:
Resurrections effect now triggers before poison, burning, and other round effects, preventing revived units from acting immediately after being resurrected.
Last Stands behavior has been corrected, which now correctly triggers when multiple units die and some return to the battlefield.
Fixed a bug with Cleanse Rearguard that could clear the first position unit's status instead of the original one.
Optimized animations for poison kills after an ambush attack, which previously remained on screen longer than intended.
Fixed the display of debuffs such as Enfeebled, Blind, and Affliction, which will no longer incorrectly display units as having gained these abilities after being affected by an enemy summoner.
Disabled rules and battle optimization:
The Corrosive Fog rule has been disabled due to it not providing interesting strategic decisions and lengthening rounds with unnecessary animations.
Prevented the Equal Opportunity and Maneuvers rules from appearing simultaneously, as their combination caused imbalances in the game.
Fixed card duplication issue in tournaments and brawls, when players rented the same card after the first team submission.
General improvements to the interface and user experience
New Reward History Screen:
A dedicated screen can now be accessed to view and replay rewards earned during league advancements. This addition allows players to relive their achievements and share them easily.
Chest Reward Display Optimization:
The League Advancement Chest opening interface has been improved, aligning its design with other standard reward screens. New options such as revealing all rewards at once and sharing earned rewards have been added.
Team Creation Screen Improvements:
To prevent accidental clicks on the top navigation when attempting to submit a team, the battle buttons and mana information have been swapped, providing a smoother experience.
Little League Tutorial and Rule Balancing Updates:
The tutorial has been shortened and updated with text that better reflects the current state of the game, making it easier to onboard new players. Additionally, the mana limit in the Little League rule has been adjusted to 28, providing greater control in matches.
Other Notable Improvements:
Added the option to hide starter cards during team creation on mobile screens.
Improvements to sorting guild members by collection power when assigning frays.
Fixes to balance display issues on mobile screens and corrections to guild invites.
Future Projects and Development Updates
New Card Set "Arcane Conclave":
It has been proposed that the SPS DAO hire the Splinterlands team to develop the next card set, titled Arcane Conclave. The development of the set would be funded with 600 million DEC tokens, and is expected to be released in April 2025.
Glamour System:
The team plans to launch a skin system called Glamour, where players can choose between skins and weapons.
Mobile App and Onboarding Improvements:
DHF funds will also be used for the development of an improved mobile experience, as well as streamlining the onboarding process for new players. This will include the creation of a free-to-play experience that will allow players to earn Glint and soulbound items.
Ongoing Projects:
Limited Hall of Legends promotional card auction, with 100 copies at max level to be sold for DEC tokens.
Continued progress on SPS validator implementation, with open coding already underway and positive feedback from the community.
