Hello Splinterlands Summoners! Tournaments is another fun way to play and earn in Splinterlands. However, before we join there are some things we have to consider. Let's jump into it.

We can access the tournament page from Play>Tournaments. From there we can see the following screen:

There are a lot of choices and setting to choose from and it's better to get the settings right so that we can play competitively and have a chance of winning.

Types of Tournaments

Single Elimination

Single Elimination tournaments start when the tournament time comes and the minimum number of players is complete. Players will have 15 minutes before the tournament starts to check in. This is a sudden death tournament. If you win, you will proceed to the next battle but if defeated, you are eliminated. Your place is known by your score before you were eliminated.

Anytime

Anytime start at the time scheduled once the minimum player requirements are met. Anytime tournaments do not require a check-in. Rounds of an Anytime tournament start after a certain amount of time has elapsed, at most 24 hours since the start of the tournament. You will then have the chance to submit your teams against your opponents. After one round finishes, you will have another 24 hours to submit a your teams against assigned opponents. Once the rounds are finished, placement is then known by your wins, draws, and losses.

Anytime seems to be the most common of all the tournament types.

Sit N Go

Sit N Go tournament will either start at the scheduled time if the minimum number of entrants are reached or will automatically begin as soon as the max entrants is reached.

Tournament Details

Wild or Modern

Wild and Modern formats are available depending on the cards that you have. Here I suggest for the newbie to choose the Modern format which requires Chaos Legion, Riftwatchers and Rebellion sets since you will need a lot of cards in Wild.

Rules

This is very important since you rules will provide you with level caps (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc) or if only gold foil is allowed. For the newbie, I'd suggest the lower leagues like Bronze or Silver since this doesn't require high level cards that you may not have.

In the above example, you can only use max Rebellion set Bronze level cards. Total prize is $22 in SPS and there is an entry fee of 50 DEC.

Conclusion

Tournament is another fun way to play in Splinterlands aside from regular battles and guild brawls. It also allows players another avenue to earn in this game. However, to have a realistic chance of winning, we must "stay in our lane" and not compete in tournament where our cards are under levelled. For the newbies, I suggest playing in Modern Bronze or Silver Leagues. Sometimes, there are also tournaments that don't require entry fees. Try joining these to get your feet wet and see if you can compete at your level.
