UNDERBOSS FABINO Animated Style
I'm excited to share my latest fan art project, where I had the pleasure of reinterpreting UNDERBOSS FABINO, a character from Splinterlands, in an anime style that highlights his intriguing and powerful character.
In this version, I focused on capturing the essence of the "underboss" giving him a classic mobster touch, but with that dramatic and stylized air of the anime. I gave him big, expressive eyes that glow in an intense red, a perfect contrast with his pointed ears that accentuate his intimidating look. His outfit couldn't be more appropriate: an elegant suit that exudes authority and a fedora hat that adds a touch of mystery. The cane in his hand, crowned with an orb at the tip, could not be missing, suggesting both power and elegance.
I wanted to give him a distinctive touch and decided to add a cigar that emanates a violet smoke, a detail that not only reinforces his gruff personality, but also adds a visual element that envelops the character in an aura of danger and mysticism. The background I chose, with deep shades of purple and a swirling fog, creates an almost theatrical backdrop that amplifies Fabino's imposing presence, making him stand out even more.
I had a lot of fun working on the details, especially the shading and vibrant colors, which not only bring the character to life, but also add a depth that makes the image come alive. This fan art is a piece that, I believe, will capture the imagination of any fan of Splinterlands-inspired art, and I'm eager to see how it is received by the community.
Participating in this weekly contest is always a creative challenge that I enjoy, and with UNDERBOSS FABINO, I was particularly inspired to explore new ways of expressing power and presence through anime style. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
Estoy emocionada de compartir mi último proyecto de fan art, donde he tenido el placer de reinterpretar a UNDERBOSS FABINO, un personaje de Splinterlands, en un estilo anime que resalta su carácter intrigante y poderoso.
En esta versión, me enfoqué en capturar la esencia del "underboss" dándole un toque clásico de mafioso, pero con ese aire dramático y estilizado propio del anime. Le he dado unos ojos grandes y expresivos que brillan en un intenso rojo, un contraste perfecto con sus orejas puntiagudas que acentúan su aspecto intimidante. Su atuendo no podría ser más apropiado: un elegante traje que respira autoridad y un sombrero fedora que añade un toque de misterio. No podía faltar el bastón en su mano, coronado con un orbe en la punta, que sugiere tanto poder como elegancia.
Quise darle un toque distintivo y decidí añadir un cigarro que emana un humo violeta, un detalle que no solo refuerza su personalidad ruda, sino que también añade un elemento visual que envuelve al personaje en un aura de peligro y misticismo. El fondo que elegí, con tonos profundos de púrpura y una niebla arremolinada, crea un escenario casi teatral que amplifica la presencia imponente de Fabino, haciendo que destaque aún más.
Me divertí mucho trabajando en los detalles, especialmente en el sombreado y los colores vibrantes, que no solo le dan vida al personaje, sino que también añaden una profundidad que hace que la imagen cobre vida. Este fan art es una pieza que, creo, capturará la imaginación de cualquier aficionado al arte inspirado en Splinterlands, y estoy ansiosa por ver cómo es recibida por la comunidad.

In the streets of New Gobson, the name Fabino commands both respect and fear. Brother of the Gobson Family's boss, Giovanni Gobson, Fabino ensures every racket runs smoothly, every coin is accounted for, and every insult and act of disrespect is repaid to the hilt.
En las calles de Nueva Gobson, el nombre de Fabino infunde respeto y miedo. Hermano del jefe de la familia Gobson, Giovanni Gobson, Fabino se asegura de que todos los trapicheos se desarrollen sin problemas, de que todas las monedas se contabilicen y de que todos los insultos y faltas de respeto se paguen con creces.
Process / Proceso
To bring UNDERBOSS FABINO to life in his anime version, the process began with an initial sketch that allowed me to explore the pose, proportions and essence of the character. With a digital pencil, I draw loose and light lines, seeking to capture Fabino's imposing posture. At this stage, my goal is to establish a solid base, where his large, expressive eyes and pointed ears are already beginning to take shape. Every detail of the outfit, from the fedora hat to the cane, is carefully sketched, though still in a very fluid and free manner.
Once the sketch is defined, it is time to proceed to the outlining, where the lines become more precise and clean. I use a finer brush to highlight the contours of the character, focusing on the details that will define his personality: the lines of the suit, the folds of the fabric, and the outline of the cigar with its meandering smoke. It is here that the character begins to take on a more tangible presence, almost as if he is ready to step out of the screen.
With the outline complete, I move on to coloring, the stage where the magic really begins to show. I select a color palette that highlights Fabino's dark, mystical atmosphere. His red eyes are filled with intensity, while the costume gets a treatment of dark, elegant tones that contrast with the purple background. At this stage, I also make sure that the orb on the cane and the purple smoke from the cigar have the right tones to stand out and complement the composition.
As the base colors are in place, I begin to apply shadows and highlights, a process that adds depth and dimension to the illustration. The shadows help give volume to the clothing, making the costume look more real and tangible. Highlights, on the other hand, are used to highlight areas where light would naturally reflect, such as on the orb of the cane or the brim of the hat. I also add subtle shimmers in the eyes and in the violet smoke, which contributes to create that mystical atmosphere that surrounds UNDERBOSS FABINO.
In the end, the character emerges with a powerful and almost tangible presence, ready to take on the world of Splinterlands in its new anime form. The process, though challenging, was a rewarding experience that allowed me to explore and express the complexity of this fascinating character.
Para dar vida a UNDERBOSS FABINO en su versión anime, el proceso comenzó con un boceto inicial que me permitió explorar la pose, las proporciones y la esencia del personaje. Con un lápiz digital, trazo líneas sueltas y ligeras, buscando capturar la postura imponente de Fabino. En esta etapa, mi objetivo es establecer una base sólida, donde sus ojos grandes y expresivos, así como las orejas puntiagudas, ya empiezan a tomar forma. Cada detalle del atuendo, desde el sombrero fedora hasta el bastón, se esboza con cuidado, aunque aún de manera muy fluida y libre.
Una vez que el boceto está definido, es momento de proceder al delineado, donde las líneas se vuelven más precisas y limpias. Utilizo un pincel más fino para resaltar los contornos del personaje, enfocándome en los detalles que definirán su personalidad: las líneas del traje, los pliegues de la tela, y el contorno del cigarro con su humo serpenteante. Es aquí donde el personaje comienza a adquirir una presencia más tangible, casi como si estuviera listo para salir de la pantalla.
Con el delineado completo, paso al coloreado, la etapa donde realmente se empieza a ver la magia. Selecciono una paleta de colores que resalte la atmósfera oscura y mística de Fabino. Sus ojos rojos se llenan de intensidad, mientras que el traje recibe un tratamiento de tonos oscuros y elegantes que contrastan con el fondo púrpura. En esta fase, también me aseguro de que el orbe en el bastón y el humo violeta del cigarro tengan los tonos adecuados para destacar y complementar la composición.
A medida que los colores base están en su lugar, comienzo a aplicar sombras y brillos, un proceso que añade profundidad y dimensión a la ilustración. Las sombras ayudan a dar volumen a la ropa, haciendo que el traje se vea más real y tangible. Las luces, por otro lado, se utilizan para resaltar las áreas donde la luz se reflejaría naturalmente, como en el orbe del bastón o en el borde del sombrero. También agrego brillos sutiles en los ojos y en el humo violeta, lo que contribuye a crear esa atmósfera mística que rodea a UNDERBOSS FABINO.
Al final, el personaje emerge con una presencia poderosa y casi tangible, listo para enfrentarse al mundo de Splinterlands en su nueva forma de anime. El proceso, aunque desafiante, fue una experiencia gratificante que me permitió explorar y expresar la complejidad de este fascinante personaje.
