Splinterland's DEC Token Price Freefalling?
Today there was a New Year's Eve tournament where @aggroed setup a 2 million DEC campaign! I did not far well in the tournament and was struck down in the second round 😢. Unfazed by the defeat I participated in the daily quest and played several battles after quest. As the new season has begun something about the DEC reward payouts for winning matched seemed a little higher than previous seasons. I wonder if the 2 million DEC prize payout and new season has anything to do with the recent DEC price drop?
Well the price of DEC has dropped in value significantly just the past 24 hours. Below is a 7 day chart to show the drop visually. It has been on a continuing gradual slide down...
Nearly a 20% drop from weekly high! The fall seems to continue unabated.
Are you curious of the recent buyers and seller?
Well it will be a surprise after all...
Top Sellers in the past 24 hours
Top Buyers in the past 24 hours
Maybe @clover71, buyer, and @hwey4, seller, had something to do with it?
(Thanks to @gerber for the charts via steemleo discord.)
My recent steemit posts on publish0x:
Steemmonsters/Splinterland - Is Untamed Cards on Sale?
Steemmonsters Vs War of Legions
I think hwey4 is cashing out... I noticed many of their cards if not all of their cards for sale on the market. After they are done cashing out there shouldn't be as many sell orders.
Probably a good time to buy cheap DEC.
Woohoo!

Interesting stats .....
I'll have to admit that I'm a little shocked that the peg on packs to 1000 DEC = $1 USD hasn't kept DEC price closer to the $1 mark on Steem-Engine.
I have read a lot of posts on people pack openings and noticed a consistent pattern. The DEC burn rate on packs are always lower than the initial purchase. Maybe the packs are overpriced so open market is readjusting.
Packs have always been over priced. I purchased most my collection via buying BETA packs and it was a rare occasion that the contents met the $2 price I paid for them. The hope is that the cards value increase once the edition is sold out or once we gain some resemblance of mass adaption.
Booster purchasing is like buying a lotto ticket in which we hope to hit a card worth more than the $2 value. In most cases its much better to buy individual cards directly from the market but that would mean we wouldn't have any chance of hitting a $100 card for just $2.
Its very likely that the UNTAMED cards value keep dropping (at least in the short term) until they near their DEC value. Of course I could be wrong on that but that's my prediction.
I feel the same way as "buying a lotto ticket" when it comes to packs and I am really really trying very hard not to spend any fiat. I basically lost my shirt in the last crypto market drop and very fearful to jump back in. But all those cheap cards in Beta and Untamed I feel will be worth more in a year or two. Alpha cards are the living proof.
