Splinterlands - Earning SPS in Rank Battles
A lot has happen since the separation of Modern and Wild rank battles. There were weeks were earning DEC per battle were better with Modern than in Wild. Then the change to SPS rewards instead of DEC rewards. As of lately I have found the earnings of SPS in gold league in Wild are a lot lower than past seasons.
Over on Splex.GG they have a good graphics to identify the SPS pools for each league and in both Wild and Modern leagues.
I remember not that long ago in Wild gold league I was yielding over 1 sps per a battle win. Now with the standard gold I getting below 1 sps even with multiple alpha, beta, and some gold foils mixed into my formations. All in all its been a difficult ride with yielding SPS in rank battles.
Even my daily focus rewards are not pulling much as most days its under $1. On days that I do get more it is likely due to getting a Chaos pack or legendary card. In any case the SPS in daily focus can sometimes even exceed my daily ranked SPS won!
Modern or Wild?
The real focus of this post is to ask which is better? First of the differences between the two leagues are as such:
In Modern league any card preceding the Untamed series including promos and rewards that are before Untamed are not allowed to be used. All cards after Untamed series and the Untamed itself are allowed in Modern. With the new additions in Rift Watchers and reward cards there are more cards to select from and play with. Yet not allowing the Alpha/Beta series makes Modern mostly focus on players who are newer to the game or those who never got the chance to obtain legacy cards in Alpha and Beta.
In Wild league any card can be used in battles that will include Alpha and Beta. This league is more of a no holds bar where anything goes and one would think is the lesser of the two to play.
However from personal experience there appears to be more active players going with Wild than Modern but it maybe changing slowly. The fact that most of the veterans in the game have amassed a alpha and beta series they are better suited to the Wild league as they still have to grow an Untamed and Chaos series cards.
Slowly and surely more players will be suited for Modern league as there are more players arriving into the game.
Rshares
The most important number to determining how many SPS a player earns in a rank battle win is the Rshares. Link to Splinterland's official info on Rshare here. I will cut to the key parts for those interested as to how the SPS earned is calculated.
In the equation directly from Splinterlands here is what each variable means:
rating = your points in the current league.
For me at gold I am at 2,269 but can go as high as 2,799. Any rating above 2,799 I am unable to get more without having to raise my league rank to diamond. So we are capped in rating based on the max rating of each league.
Then there is ECR which is Energy Capture Rate. This is a number % starting at 100% and each battle uses 1% while the game automatically recharges at 1.04% per an hour or 25% per a 24 hour day. To all players who want to maximize their opportunities to earn they should play at least 25 battles a day.
Bonuses are in terms of using non-starter cards, alpha/beta cards, gold foiled cards, win streak, guild league/ranking and earning daily focus bonus. The key here is trying to avoid using starter cards in matches. Playing with cards that you do not own reduces the bonus dramatically. Therefore it is recommended at minimum to have at least level 1 cards ready to play.
With the use of starter cards, which come with the spell book, the reduction of points comes from the rating itself, therefore by looking at the equation above if a player used all six positions as starter card, including summoner, they end up with zero SPS earned even if they win!
One last note here is Rshare is currently displayed in game as your daily focus points. So technically your focus points earned each day is your daily Rshare and accumulated over a season is your full Rshare for that season.
A breakdown of the Rshares required for each chest per league is charted above. These are set requirements to reach a certain daily amount of chests. For example in Diamond league it would require me 53,750 focus points to earn 1 daily focus chest while the same 53,750 focus points in Gold league will have earned my around 2 daily focus chest.
To end here each league max daily focus chests earned is 30 while for the season it is 150. As each league rises the earnings and opportunities to pull higher SPS in a focus chest rises.
Conclusions
It is obvious that the higher the league they are playing in the more rewards they will be able to earn. This means players who invested the most will likely yield the most. This all seems fair play and that is why I am trying my best to build my deck and reach a steady amount of Diamond rank battles.
Whether it is wild or modern the competition is fierce. Each has its own benefits but at the end of the season its where you ranked the highest that is considered your total focus points that earns you more rewards. It is with this I recommend sticking toward one league once you start a new season. No point to redistribute your energy capture rate into both leagues that will in turn lead you to earning less focus points per win. The goal is to earn the most points which in turn yield the most rewards.
Until next time thanks for reading!!!

Not really. And I think you explained it very well.
For a lot of people (including me) it also helps to read about the same topic from different persons to fully understand it.
So Job well done 👍

Was it 25% dark energy capture rate per day? I was always under the assumption that it was 24% or about 1% per hour.

Straight out of splinterlands site:
Get those 25 battles in daily ;)
Exactly! It's just that I've come across several posts where people describe that they play in both leagues. I tried it and realized it was just a waste of RC, effort, and missed out on prizes in the end. Thanks for sharing and dispelling my doubts!

you are too good in splinterlands.
I always keep my ECR as high as possible. Also have gold cards only for that extra bonus. Currently getting 0.8-1 SPS per win in Gold II. I am really happy with the rate I am picking up SPS at this stage.
