Briar Patch Weekly Battle Challenge | Splinterlands #259
This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Briar Patch Ruleset.
Ruleset Details
The Briar Patch ruleset gives all monsters in battle the Thorns ability. When a monster with Thorns ability is attacked, the attacker receives damage. The damage the monster reflects equals half the damage the attacker does. For example, a monster with hits for four damage will reflect two damage to the attacker. The Thorns ability is handy when facing an opponent who relies heavily on melee damage, as it can help mitigate the damage dealt to the player's team. One monster that thrives on having the Thorns ability is Lord Arianthus, still considered one of the most powerful tanks in the game due to its high health, damage reduction, and the Thorns ability. Other passive tanks like Baakjira also thrive by having the Thorns ability.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
I opted to have a Baakjira as the passive tank leading the line, which has many abilities to help its survivability. The backline was packed with heavy magic damage monsters, lots of team buffs to aid damage and health, and a DPS melee monster in the form of Deeplurker, who was doing an insane five melee damage with four-speed. My opposition was led by Cursed Windeku and a full backline of magic monsters. The difference maker in the battle was that my magic monsters were more powerful, and the victory was reasonably straightforward.
Do you like the Briar Patch ruleset? Why or why not?
The Briar Patch ruleset, which provides the Thorns ability, can help mitigate damage to a player's team. This can be particularly effective against opponents who rely heavily on melee damage, as it can quickly whittle down their health. The Thorns ability provides many powerful combinations. Now you can have healers' healing tanks and survive the barrage from Sneak and Opportunity ability monsters in the backline.
