Minotaur Warrior Weekly Battle Challenge || Ep. #93 || Splinterlands

This week's battle challenge focuses on the Minotaur Warrior:

The Minotaurs are the only people in Anumün rugged enough to inhabit the Giant Grasslands of Primordia, where the Dinosaurs roam. They live in wandering tribes, sleeping in hide tents and hunting Rexxies for their meat, clothing and weapons. Minotaur spears are longer than they seem.

An Alpha/Beta edition common rarity monster from the Earth Splinter at level 5:

  • Estimated cost: $2.159
  • Mana cost: 4
  • Melee damage: 2
  • Speed: 4
  • Armor: 1
  • Health: 4
  • Reach ability: Melee attack Monsters with the Reach ability may attack from the second position on the team.

Minotaur Warrior is one of the original splinterlands cards with a low mana cap that does okay as a support monster in the backline. Having the Minotaur Warrior at level 5 does give it extra speed, damage and health, which helps to make it survive a little longer while it chips in with damage from the backline. However, it's a card I don't use too often as I found it a bit too squishy, but for the weekly battle challenge, I decided to use it to see how it would fair on the battlefield.

Unfortunately, this battle wasn't much of a contest, and I got beat reasonably quickly by a superior opponent. The Death Summoner, Zintar Mortalis, hex ability of -1 melee damage to all enemy monsters put my team on the back foot from the get-go. My strategy of having a powerhouse tank like Flesh Golem didn't pay off as my opponent went cheaper mana cost monsters, proving pivotal as they were doing more damage in total - 3 damage total vs 6 damage total. Minotaur Warrior survived longer than anticipated and could chip with a few critical hits, but unfortunately stood no chance as soon as Flesh Golem faltered.

Do you like the Minotaur Warrior? Why or why not?

I don't use the Minotaur Warrior very often as I often found there are better alternatives if you are interested in a support melee monster such as Orc Sergeant. When looking at the usage data, the Minotaur Warrior is not appreciated or used in any leagues apart from the Champion League. A maxed-out Minotaur Warrior seems fantastic, and I can understand why players would look to use it, but I am not interested in spending $45 in getting it to the max. But your mileage may vary.
