WHAT WEB 3 GAMING IS TO ME

INTRODUCTION

Web 3 gaming is trying to find it's feet but as with all new things it has been struggling to get the attention it deserves. In this post I will go over how I see the Web 3 gaming industry as it is now and what it will likely become.

WEB 3 GAMING NOW

The Web 3 gaming industry started out selling a dream and in this dream it told you how one day everyone would be playing games and earn money from them. Then you find a game or maybe you just see a post about it somewhere and people are saying play this game, I earnt X amount of dollars play. You then go learn about how to sign up and you put a decent amount of money into the game to try build up because you feel like it is a good investment as surely you will make your money back. Right?
About here is where it all goes downhill and it is not your fault, it is not the developers fault, it is the dream you had of getting rich off of a game that has bought you undone. It is not that you did not have the opportunity it is that others did it better then you and got in early. But they did not stay or if they did they made sure to earn some money and get out. This is a great play to earn some money however it is not good for the game as over time people earn less and lose interest.
Some games have managed to survive though like Splinterlands for example. I mean it has gone through a bit of a bad time recently but it looks like it will pull through and this opens up a lot of opportunities for those who have remained loyal to the game.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

How did we get here you ask? Let's look at this.
First we have to look at those using crypto and blockchain. While there are a lot of apps on blockchain now or dapps. This was not always the case and the core community of they crypto community I would say is investment based or minded. Whatever crypto you use this is a currency and before web 3 games and dapps were a thing people were mining and trading crypto.
Now the gaming world still even now looks down on crypto or Web 3 games and sees them as a waste of time. This is slowly changing but I feel this is still the case.
Ok so who is playing these games if not mainstream gamers?
Well investors of coarse and how do they see these games? You guessed it as investments as this is what they know and maybe even believe Web 3 games are for. Unfortunately with any trading investment someone has to lose money for you to make money. This is where it becomes not sustainable from an investors point of view.

HOW DO I SEE WEB 3 GAMING?

I come from a gaming background instead of an investor one. So I see it like this.
I see a game I like and I buy that game and play it for as long as I enjoy it. The money does not feel like a waste unless the game turns out not to be what I thought it was.
Now that I play Web 3 games I see games that look good and I play them. I see items and I buy them because I want them to use in the game. I do not see them as investments but as purchases.
I feel that as more and more gamers enter the market you will see a shift to this point of view.

WHAT WILL THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE FOR WEB 3?

I see gaming companies making games as they always have, but the games will be web 3. Some will be free to play and some you will have to buy upfront. Some will even have DLC's, battle passes or subscriptions so that they can continue to develop the game over the years.
As for your Items they will all be crypto. The common or abundant ones will be worth nothing but the legendary or super rare ones will be worth a lot as not many people have them.
Some will say this will never happen or crypto games are not able to do this. For those that have been around awhile on web 3 gaming you will know all the changes that have happened and possible see the future I do. Also my kids play games on Roblox and tell me about items they want but they cost massive amounts of in game currency as they are super rare items from old battle passes and the only way you can get them is to buy them off another player.

IN CONCLUSION

I see a bright future for web 3 gaming. We just need people to see the games for what they are, a game, and not an investment.
We need to see that we own the items in game and if at some point we want to sell them for something else or just to make some money back as we leave the game we can.
I hope that you all found this interesting and maybe offered a different point of view for those looking to play web 3 games.

Have a great day everyone!
