Water Dragon vs. Earth Dragon

Match details

  • Match rules: Heavy Hitters, Up Close & Personal, 28 mana
  • Allowed splinters: Water, Earth, Life, Dragon
  • Summoner used: Brighton Bloom
  • Elements used: DRAGON + WATER

Based on my experience while being stuck in Silver league, very few players use monsters that have stun at this point. So I ignored the heavy hitter rule (I don't have stun monsters as well) and focused on countering usual melee line-ups in the Silver league.

While building this set, I was expecting to go against Mylor because he is the perfect splinter for Up Close & Personal (in my opinion), and it feels like almost everyone in the Silver league wants to hold and use Mylor's thorns. With that in mind, I opted to use high damage monsters to lessen the number of attacks needed from my end, and in return lessen the instances that thorns can damage me. I also chose to have Frost Giant as a tank with the same reason in mind.

My lineup: flying water & neutral melee monsters

Summoner
First position
Second position
Third position
Last position
  • Frost Giant: I chose Frost Giant in the front for obvious reasons: solid tank + high damage output
  • Sand Worm: I chose to put Sand Worm in the second position because I think it is the position where it can be most utilized, good sub for Frost Giant in case it dies; won't die easily from sneak attacks
  • Battering Ram: Just a filler, could switch with demented shark
  • Demented Shark: Its one shield can easily waste one attack from monsters. I added demented shark to simply support Frost Giant & Sand Worm. Not expecting it to fight its own battle.

Opponent's lineup: Melee neutral, earth, and 1 dragon monster

Summoner
First position
Second position
Third position
Fourth position
Fifth position
Last position

Finally got a win after a bad losing streak

Although I anticipated the summoner incorrectly, I am quite glad that my Frost Giant + Sand Worm combo worked out nicely. It is always fun to see when 1 attack monsters are not doing anything against your monster shield.

This is a good way to finish my losing streak today!

DRAGONS ROCK

This is one of the reasons why I like playing dragons. It fun to combine decks of different splinters, and utilize the buffs from dragon monsters. There is a different kind of joy when you see a water splinter monster working out perfectly with your dragon summoner and monsters. Other than that, it also solves the problem of having few dragon monster cards (like in my case), as you can easily utilize the monsters from your other splinters.
