Battle Mage Secrets Weekly challenge... and a giveaway!
Back to the weekly challenges! But it was tough finding a battle with the week's prompt! I don't know what's the probability of each ruleset to appear (or even if it's the same for every one), or if I was just unlucky... but it finally came. And here it is:
In this ruleset, only neutral cards can be used. Which means that the summoner you use matters a ton, because everyone will play with the same cards, since there are no splinter-specific cards available. And special attention has to be taken with any other ruleset, because those are what will weigth the most in your summoner's choice. In a lesser extent, the available mana you have will also play a role in that choice. Here's the battle I'm bringing you:
Two more rulesets here:
- Counterspell - all monsters have the magic reflect ability
- Aim True - all monsters hit their target
With these two sets, using magic was not the best choice, and speed was of higher importance; since no monster fails to hit, who hits first has a huge advantage! The very low mana cap didn't help at all in the choices, but here is what I came up:
My strategy and lineup:
- Tarsa as the summoner: higher HP is also handy, and since I chose only melee monsters, the melee bonus helped too
- Gargoya Lyon as tank: rarely used it, but seened a good choice here, decent tank for the 6 mana, and the flying and enrage could help a lot
- uraeus: with only 3 mana left to fill, seemed a perfect choice: decent damage and poison, which in low cap games can be the difference between victory or defeat.
My opponent went for very strong summoner, Ilthain: more speed and ranged reflected damage! He relied on chaos agent as tank, probably hoping for dodge, with venator kinjo as off tank, with amplify and slow to further help. Followed with venary marksrat, with the shatter and snare coming in handy; and Uraeus on the last position as well.
When I saw the lineup, I knew this would be a hard battle, and honestly the odds seemed to be in my opponent's favour.
How did the battle went?
The Uraeus poisoned each other at first strike, and although I had one more hp point, my opponent had far more speed in the attack, which meant my uraeus would be dead as second round started.
Luckily for me, my tank was able to hit the chaos agent at first try!
In the second round started, my opponent's Uraeus cleared mine, but with only 2 hp left and poisoned, it wouldn't be a concern. And as my gargoya enraged, it made the battle a lot easier.
And at the beginning of round 3, with only a ranged useless tank and a dead uraeus, victory was mine!
You can check the entire battle here!
Games with small mana caps make for normally shorter battles, but who will be victorius is not always apparent in the initial lineup; sometimes, a miss is all it takes to change the battle's course!
