Battle Mage Secrets Weekly challenge... and a giveaway!

New reward cards are finally here! And there are quite a few gems there; some cards are really really good! I used this week's challenge to try one of them for the first time, and I believe this will be one of the set's favourites. You'll find out which card am I talking about soon, but first let's see this week's prompt:

No summoner skills on this ruleset, so I normally go for the dragon summoner, since it broadens the amount of cards I have available to choose my strategy! I guess dual summoners are perfect for here too, but still don't have them at a decent level.

In this battle all splinters were available; I forgot to rent Quix, so went for the earth splinter with Obsidian, since I wanted to try the new card! Here is the battle:

One more ruleset here:

  • Little league - only cards with 4 mana and below can be used.

Now, earth is not normally my go-to splinter with little league, given so many good cards in life or water splinter for that ruleset. But after Chaos Legion cards and now with some of the Rebellion ones, a lot of awesome options can be used.

My strategy and lineup:

  • Obsidian as the summoner: just for the splinter, given the lack of skills due to ruleset
  • Vampire Bat as tank: very fast tank, would expect some dodge from the melee and ranged attacks
  • Venari Scout: strong opportunity card for the low mana, decent attack and speed
  • Queen Mycelia: awesome support card, with triage, rust, and protect
  • Halaran Huntress: the card I wanted to try! With the charge ability, a melee attack that can attack from any position is a must have
  • Fungus Flinger: I was expecting some sneak attacks, so the martyr ability would buff the huntress and the djinn, that would stay in last position but couldn't be targeted due to camouflage
  • Djinn Biljka: slow but high magic damage, that would be buffed if the flinger died

My opponent went for the best choice, dragon, with death splinter: Xenith Monk, probably one of the best tanks for little league, follwed by shadow snitch with reach. Revealer followed, with stun, and the warden for the protect boost. To finish the lineup soul strangler, a strong ranged attacker, and riftwing in the last position, likely to try and soak melee damage.

When I saw the lineup, I figured I had good chances: protect from warden would be dismissed by mycelia rust, and only 1 magic attacker, so more chances for my tank to dodge attacks and survive more time.

How did the battle went?

image.png

Without protect, the warden as at mercy of my opportunity scout, so got eliminated at the first round. And due to the dodge, my tank was able to escape a few attacks, with the monk only had 4 hp left by the end of round 1.

image.png

Early on round 2, the monk gets eliminated, and my venary scout claims another victim, clearing my opponent's strongest ranged attacker. Only the snitch, the revealer and a helpless riftwing remained.

image.png

And mid round 3, my huntress delivers the killing blow to the revealer, leaving only the defenseless (apart from the backfire) riftwing on the battlefield, and victory was certain!

You can check the entire battle here!

I can see myself using the huntress very frequently! Even at a very low level, it's already useful. And with snare, flying and 4 melee attack at max level, it's a beast of a card at only four mana!

Have you used it before? And do you have a favourite strategy for this ruleset? Let me know in the comments!

Have you used it before?

I'm just getting started with new cards. Haven't bought any yet so only have a few from rewards. Still kind of in a funk about game so not investing right now.

Can totally understand. These are the new reward cards, so no need to invest anything besides gameplay time. ;)

Hahaha, I was so relieved to pull this one through!

I didn't have Coreul Lurker for the longest time, it's still kind of a new card for me so it's so nice to now, finally, have 10,000 misses actually work to my benefit.
