Is Splinterlands Still Play To Earn???
As Splinterlands continuously nerfs player rewards in the name of fighting bots, my season rewards have hit a new low to the point that I can barely cover the cost of renting my cards. Indeed, removing liquid cards from the rewards chest means that players earn virtually no liquid assets that can be used to finance their rentals or recoup their initial investment. Mertis and potions have no value outside of the game, soulbound rewards can't be liquidated, and SPS takes a considerable time to unstake and sell. This brings up the question...is Splinterlands even a play-to-earn game anymore?
In today's post, we will examine the decreasing level of Splinterlands rewards but also discuss the future of blockchain gaming and why I think NFT / Web3 gaming has a future even if it isn't necessarily based on a play-to-earn model.
