Hello, Splinterlovers, how are you today. Today I will make a post again about the Splinterlands contest Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. This Week's Theme is Odd Ones Out ruleset.
I usually battled in the Modern Format Diamond League using my 2 scholar accounts from Balthazar scholar bltzr-wizard-710 and bltzr-wizard-711.

Ruleset
- Tis But Scratches, all monsters have a Cripple ability.
- Each time an enemy is hit by a Monster with Cripple it loses one max health. Decreasing maximum health reduces the effect of Heal and Tank Heal
- Back to Basics: monsters lose all abilities.
- Odd Ones Out, only monster with the odd mana cost can be used, summoner not affected by this ruleset.
- mana cap.
- can use Water, Earth, Life and Death element.
My Lineup and strategy
- For Odd Ones Out we don't pay to much attention because we don't memorize all the units that have odd mana costs so we will usually check which elements are suitable for use in this battle (based on mana and other rulesets) if the unit we want to use can't be used then we will check with the summoner in another element.
- For this battle we decided to focus on the Back to Basic ruleset where all units will lose their abilities, and we will rely on the abilities of our summoners.
We will use the Earth element in this battle because there is a summoner who can reduce magic damage by half so we can focus on dealing with ranged and melee type attacks.
The Lineup we use (Ignore the ability in the unit picture below, all ability is disabled except the summoner ability), I will talk more about the formation we use below :
Summoner or monster | Abilities | Description |
---|---|---|
Immortalis, Summoner. Can decrease all enemy monsters' HP by -1. Have Void, and Shatter abilities | We use this summoner because having the Void ability can decrease the enemy magic attack by 50% so we can focus to handle the melee and range damage, Shatter ability will destroy all armor from the monster we hit with only 1 attack. | |
Pelacor Mercenary, 1st position. | We used this melee unit because this fast unit we have in the Odd mana cost with good HP, and have armor. | |
Hill Giant, 2nd position. | I put this melee unit the 2nd position because it cost only 3 mana with high HP. | |
Regal Peryton, 3rd position. | I use this unit because this is the fastest unit in the Earth element who can attack from far awaym this unit main job is to destroy the enemy armor. | |
Runemancer Florre 4th Position, attacker. | This Unit have 2 type of attack magic and range. When it move to the first position only a magic attack can work. With high HP this unit will be a good tanker for our main attacker the range unit behind. This unit actually our main attacker too because it has range damage. | |
Uloth dhampir, 5th position. | With 4 range damage this unit considered as high damager, have 10 HP can protect the unit behind for a while. | |
Venari Seedsmith, 6th position. | We left with only 6 mana to use, we decided to use this 5 range unit mana cost although have low health but have high damage |
This is our strategy in this battle :
- First Regal Peryton will attack the enemy unit in the first position and destroy the armor if it has it, actually in this Back to Basic ruleset we expect that the enemy will use the same summoner, This unit will only have little damage because it has a magic type. Then our range and melee unit will attack and decrease the enemy's HP. (if range and melee unit have sama speed then the range will attack first as you will see in this battle).
- We Focus more on the melee and range damage in this battle because only that type of attack can give full damage to the enemy (remember magic damage only gives 50% damage if the enemy uses the same summoner as us).
- In a battle like this we must make sure that all our units can attack before they die. If we bring 2 melee units this is the rule: we give the fastest melee speed in front hope an attack before it dies, and the melee in the 2nd position must be slower. Why? because if you put the slowest unit in the front then :
- It may die before having a chance to attack
- The 2nd reason is if the slowest melee unit in front dies and the 2nd melee unit which has faster speed moves to the first position it has the possibility can't attack anymore cause the turn already skipped.
- Usually, if we don't use the summoner Immortalis then the higher HP unit will put in the front but our Runemancer Florre is rather different because it has 2 types of attack and the range damage is quite high so we want this unit as one of the main attackers to stay alive for a while so we put in the 4th position to protect the range unit behind.
Our Formation is finished and we are ready to battle, not much ability we can see in this formation because only the summoner have the ability, buff and debuff :
Did your Strategy Work?
Not all worked but we still won this battle with luck on our side, as our guess the enemy used the same summoner as us :
Pelacor Mercenary does not have a chance to attack because it's not fast enough but so does the enemy Mycelic Slipspawn in the first position, the enemy brings many ranges with fast speed, our Hill Giant with the slowest speed has a chance to attack after moving to the first position due to slower speed so have last turn to move before it dies and killed the enemy Regal Peryton, and left with 1 HP which later will killed by the enemy unit Gem Meteor with 4 damage save our other unit from hit with full 4 damage :
I think we can win this battle because we bring 2 melee tankers with the Hill Giant can attack and kill the enemy Regal Peryton forcing the enemy Runemancer Florre to move to the first position and can't attack with the range damage anymore and the 2nd reason the enemy Venari Seedsmith failed to hit our Regal Peryton :
