Why I Spent Over $1000 for Chaos Legion Pre-Sale Packs

Splinterlands Pre-Sale Perks

Before the Chaos Legion Pre-Sale packs was released, I already made up my mind to participate in this event so I could get that exclusive limited edition promo card and increase my chances at receiving the 13 airdrop cards from buying the packs early.

The first problem in completing this goal is that I won't have 50 airdrop vouchers even if I have staked 3000 Splintershards token. So I unstake some of those to have at least $500 hoping that a voucher would only cost $5 each. But when the price of voucher tokens is at $17- $20, it made me question whether I should skip the pre-sale or not.

The only option I have is to sell some of my cards and my Splinterlands land plot so I could have additional funds. I have limited funds that I can't afford to have both the land and the packs. After thinking for some time, my strategy would be to sell the land plot and purchase the packs. Then resell those 50 packs to buy a land plot again but the consequence is that I would lost around $500 to execute this strategy because I can only resell the packs for half the price that I will buy it.

And these are the questions that I considered before executing my plan.

  1. Will I regret spending over $1000 for a guaranteed exclusive promo card and a chance for 13 airdrop cards?

Maybe. I could buy and levelled up some summoners that I can use for the ranked battles or I could buy gold cards to increase my collection power so I can climb up the higher league. But I will only pay $500 using my strategy of reselling the packs. But what if the total price of the airdrop cards will be at least $500?

This leads me to the second question:

  1. If the price of the voucher will remain at $17 and the total cost of 50 vouchers is at $850 just to get that guaranteed exclusive promo card, will other players sell those card for less than $850?

Of course. Some will sell it for a lower price just to take profit but if that guaranteed promo card is a really good card it will still have a high market value. So even if some receive airdrop vouchers I still doubt that they will sell it for a cheap price when they could have made a profit of $250 by selling those vouchers assuming that price of vouchers will drop to $5.

And this is the last question that convinced me to buy those 50 packs.

  1. With my strategy of reselling the packs, will I regret losing $500 or will I regret not taking the chance to have that guaranteed exclusive promo card plus the chance to have the 13 airdrop cards?

Between the two options, I will surely regret not taking the chance to have the airdrop cards because I could earn that $500 again from the Splintershards token airdrop, DEC wins per day, end of season rewards and trading cards. In addition, this is the first ever Splinterlands pre-sale that I can participate in since I started playing this game three months ago so I don't want to miss this chance.

The photos below shows that I bought 50 voucher tokens so I could buy 50 packs.

After buying 50 Chaos Legion Packs ensuring my goal to receive that exclusive promo card and a chance for future airdrop cards, I sold those 50 packs for half the price so I could buy a land plot again.

This might seem like a bad move because at the end I won't have any packs left but I could just buy chaos legion pre-sale packs from the secondary market for half the price also for the remaining 35 days from my daily earnings. So technically, I only spent that $500 first to make sure that I could receive the guaranteed promo card and I will still have packs at the end of the pre-sale after doing this strategy.

The good thing about my decision to buy the Chaos Legion Packs early is that I don't need to worry even if the price of vouchers go up or down anymore. I will just wait for the exclusive promo card at the end of the pre-sale.

Note: This is not a financial advice. I am not encouraging anyone to follow what I did. I took this risk knowing that we should only invest what we can afford to lose. Additionally, the money that I spent came from my profit in playing this game so it is just my way of reinvesting. And I really like Splinterlands more than any blockchain games that I am playing so I am very much willing to spend that much.
